Mortimerkenny21 Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 No, todays pitchers are not Randy Johnson and Nolan Ryan but let's hope the Joe Ryan experience is a little bit like Nolan, and 23-year-old Ryan Johnson with a 6.99 ERA doesn't magically start pitching like Randy Johnson and makes us look like chumps. Here's to a good game today, Go Twins!! This day in Twins history; On July 11, 1965, Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew hit a dramatic walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Minnesota Twins a 6-5 victory over the New York Yankees, helping secure the American League pennant. On July 11, 1987, the Minnesota Twins defeated the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. Twins pitcher Frank Viola earned the win, limiting the Orioles to eight singles. Minnesota secured the victory with solo home runs from Randy Bush and Gary Gaetti. [1, 2, 3] The game is also historically notable because Orioles rookie Billy Ripken made his Major League debut. This marked the first time in MLB history that a manager (Cal Ripken Sr.) managed two of his sons (Billy and Cal Ripken Jr.) in the same game Patzky, Brandon Glick, Church of Kreidler and 1 other 4

More likely this is who he is. Evolving situation.. it's a big day in Twinsville with the draft and the Experience happening at the same simultaneous time ✨✨ Mortimerkenny21 1
HarmonK03 Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I posted a similar comment about Gray in the article about him, but today's lineup is proof that Kreidler is not going to be our everyday shortstop until Culpepper is healthy and ready. Gray is starting for the second day in a row at SS and they are going to ride primarily with him. The Twins obviously think Gray has something to offer and that is that he bats LH. They do not appear to value competence, just what side of the plate they hit from. The sooner Zoll is gone and replaced by a competent baseball executive will be too soon. This is analytics gone wild. Church of Kreidler and David HK 1 1
Church of Kreidler Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I am preemptively angry that I'm going to have to watch Tristan Grey play instead of a capable short stop tomorrow. HarmonK03 and David HK 1 1
Patzky Old-Timey Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Caratini behind the plate, Trout in the lineup for the Halos today, and all eyes in the draft. Hey we gotta win if we want to take the series! Western SD Fan, Mortimerkenny21, Peter and 1 other 4

Western SD Fan Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 And this is why Joe Ryan's pitch count is always too high. When it seems necessary to strike out the side every inning because of the defense behind you, your pitch count is going to suffer. Needing to pitch to 2-3 extra batters a game can determine whether you get a quality start. Patzky 1
Western SD Fan Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 With apologies to @Patzky, I'm posting the lineups from both teams. I like seeing this later in games and I don't remember anymore which handedness the next scheduled batters are to help determine where it appears the bullpen will be going. Patzky 1

Sjoski Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 It was great to see Dick Bremer honored before the game today. No disrespect to him at all, as I genuinely like the man. However, some of the overt embellishment he used to praise the front office and the organization made me cringe. Patzky 1

Western SD Fan Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 A bit surprised that Mauer is not there today. Also somewhat surprised that Plouffe didn't stay the weekend since he was already in Minnesota for the previous series. Peter 1
Peter Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Yes on mauer/ploufe they should’ve been there!!! Target field should be packed for bremer HOF induction!!! Very disappointing it wasn’t along with current team not on field Western SD Fan 1
Western SD Fan Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Nice cover by Lewis. I agree with Morneau's take on 1B. Always take it yourself if you think you can beat the runner no matter if the pitcher is on first or not.

Peter Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Luke doesn’t belong in cf why is he out there??? IndyTwinsFan 1
HarmonK03 Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Luke looked like someone who hasn't played much in the outfield on that one. Western SD Fan 1
Twindy Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 It’s eight extra pitches and counting that Luke caused Ryan so far. Patzky 1
Western SD Fan Verified Member Posted July 11 Posted July 11 9 extra pitches for Ryan because Keashall couldn't catch the ball. That's the difference between 6 and 7 innings.
