stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 10 Posted May 10 The most improbable win of the year last night. Counting on the Twins bullpen to keep the pesky Guards from scoring when they only needed one run seemed like an impossible ask. A lot of fine defensive plays when it mattered were vital. I wonder what the move will be to make room for Rojas. It seems certain that he'll be called on to pitch multiple innings today. Patzky 1

Answering my own query and to me it is quite a shocker--Funderburk was optioned to St. Paul with Rojas called up. It is left hander for left hander and Fundy is one of few who have options in the BP, but IMHO he has been the best bullpen arm on the team (damning with faint praise). C-Gangster 1
Western SD Fan Verified Member Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Funderburk gets sent down to make room for Rojas. Hopefully Funderburk can find the strike zone in St. Paul. C-Gangster and Patzky 2

So we get to keep seeing Banda run out there. Options can not be the only criteria they use to make moves. Give me a reason to watch, I do not want to keep watching the washed up 30 somethings that are contributing nothing. Church of Kreidler, Richie the Rally Goat, C-Gangster and 1 other 4

Funderburk has 15 walks and HBP in 16 innings, Banda has 13 in 16 innings with an ERA over 8. But sure let's say Funderburk is the problem. howeda7, Richie the Rally Goat and C-Gangster 3

But sure let's say Funderburk is the problem. I don't think Funderburk is the problem. I have more hope in Funderburk having a future with the team long term than Banda or Rogers. Given the state of the bullpen, usage wise, a fresh arm needed to be brought in and Funderburk is one of the few relievers who has options. My real hope is that Funderburk does his work in St. Paul, focuses his command, and comes back after the minimum stint to replace Banda. For reference, here is the state of the bullpen going into a bullpen game. Adams looks like he will be the bulk guy and then our next most rested reliever is Topa. Unfortunately, Fundy drew the short straw. C-Gangster 1

I get your point about usage but I think Rojas will be the one getting the bulk innings after Morris. And I am not sure Banda will be available or would I want him to be. Heiny Verified Member Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Wow, and I've been a baseball fan for many many years. And I've always thought that the runner got a free back to their base on a foul ball, even if it was caught in the air. Learn something every day. RpR, Church of Kreidler and Patzky 2 1
