Clemens after 74 PAs.

  • best exit velocity on the team (50+ PAs)
  • 5th in EV90
  • 5th on the team in xwOBA at .340 (league average .323)
  • one of three players on the team with a positive DRS and OAA though he isn’t playing his best position of 2B
  • 2nd on the team in stolen bases
  • last on the team in BABIP at .220
  • 9th on the team in OPS and below league average.

He hasn't been even league average, and he wasn't last year other than 1 month.

Being the "best" at something on a terrible hitting team isn't exactly glowing.....

I play Gray or Keaschell or Fedko (he's not young, so why not) at first.

And, just because this is about Clemens doesn't mean I don't feel the same about Outman and Wallner (and maybe Lewis in another two months).

Better to follow a process and determine if results are consistent with what you expect the results to be, especially in small sample sizes.

Last year, Clemens was just as good for the Twins as Josh Bell is right now.
