A Jeffers-sized hole in the second spot in the lineup is a big handicap to overcome. Iffy defense and pitching was the icing on the cake. If our starter doesn't go six or seven innings the outlook won't be good for the rest of the season.. and probably next year too.

Hers a novel idea. Trade Jeffers, and resign Vazquez for a cheap contract.  bring up Pereda for half the year then Tait at the break, dropping whomever is more expendable. I know Jeffers hits occasionally but that statue impersonation has run its course.

To use a the often babbled out "small sample", although here it fits well, Gasper's defense compared to Jeffers.
