Per MLB Trades, the Twins are planning to select the contract of right-handed pitching prospect David Festa, reports Bobby Nightengale of the Star Tribune. The 24-year-old will be called up ahead of Thursday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Minnesota has an open spot on the 40-man roster, although the team will still need to make a corresponding move to add Festa to the 26-man roster.

So Festaval will supplant Pablo Day..

1. Pleasantly surprised.

2. Which of these three goes to make room? Henriquez, Thielbar, or Funderburk

My guess is Funderburk, but it SHOULD be Thielbar

Correct on Funderburk. Absolutely should be Thielbar but he's a made man. And they likely want to keep Henriquez around if they need a reliever to pitch 2+ innings.

Dare to dream of a starting rotation of: Pablo, Ryan, Ober, SWR, and Festa. Everyone healthy and pitching well. That's a legit long-term rotation.

Also of note, Festa's a NJ native and grew up about 90 minutes from where I live.

I enjoyed Henriquez's two innings more than Thielbar's and Funderburk's innings combined this year.

And wow, doing a little math: Thielbar has had 24 appearances and only thrown 16 1/3 innings. That's retro LOOGY numbers. That's a lot of outs a guy isn't getting when generally required to face at least three batters in today's game.

If tonight's a blowout (especially for AZ) put all three out for an inning. Worst WHIP goes home.

I think those five aren't going anywhere by choice either..

Love it! We are shooting for upside over the status quo (Varland) and a journeyman that won’t have a future here (Boushley).

Even if Festa only has a 5% chance of replacing Sonny Gray, it's better than Boushley and Dobnak's 0% chance.

I would love to see them use the day to trade Thielbar to another team for a low A prospect.  Give him a shot to continue his career, and the Twins to remove him gracefully.   Then move Varland to the pen permanently and with Stewart and Topa coming after the AS break, we could make up for short starts and save innings when possible

Thielbar is 37, there's no way any team takes him on a trade.   If the Twins do part ways it will be thru release.  I'm not sure you could convince many people he has been better than Funderburk though, who has an option.  Caleb has been pretty bad, but he does have a track record and he's throwing harder at 37 than he ever has.  I'm not jumping on the bandwagon and if he keeps walking guys,

Edit:  So stoked for Festa.  I hope he takes the opportunity and shows out!  Very looking forward to seeing him pitch
