I love varland in the bullpen.... I'm not convinced he's a starter or that anyone would trade for him thinking he was one? I'd have preferred doing this versus the Yankees, they were losing those game

You are correct sir! That guy used to get hit over 20 times every season. I think he went as high as 50 one year. Amazing.

Just checking in- Wow, Louie "Duck and Cover" Varland has made it through 3 frames relatively unscathed!  A good sign.

Plus, that Rockies lineup- whew!  There are Farmer/Vazquez-ian numbers!  Maybe Louie can get em up and down a couple-three times!

Quantrill is baffling batters so far. Pitch count is creeping up however.

Louie giving up some hard contact but all beat into the ground. Only one K and doesn't look like he's trying to strike everyone out on every pitch. Encouraging.

According to Baseball Reference, Hunt led the NL in HBP every season from 1968-74, with 50 HBP in 1971. He had 243 HBP lifetime!
