Amazing how some people just love to argue about things, regardless of the topic. Human nature I guess.

You know damn well the only reason they do this is so that they can hopefully get as much viewership and ad revenue by not having multiple games going at once. If multiple games are on, people are switching channels at commercial break. It’s all about the money and they don’t give a hoot that it hurts the average fans ability to watch.

Yes I understand that without money MLB isn’t a thing, but they can make money while also giving people the ability to watch at a normal time. More than 75% of games during the week are in the evening.

I work from home so I’ll be able to watch every game. I live on the east coast so it’s easier for me, but I feel for the other fans who can’t.

I don't think many people would categorize me as an "average fan," but I love that the games are throughout the day so I don't have to flip back and forth and miss a bunch of one game or the other. I want to watch as much as possible. I appreciate that MLB gives me that chance.

From MLB's perspective, they know most fans will find a way to watch their team if they really want to. The league is far too regionalized as is, and the postseason is the best time to market it to the national crowd. Yes, there are some people who won't be able to watch afternoon games. As some on these boards have mentioned, they'll record it and watch it commercial free later. Some fans have after work/school activities with their kids so they wouldn't be able to watch evening games. Some with young kids have bedtime routines that can take quite a while so they'd miss a large chunk of the night games. They can't hit everyone, but staggering the games gives them the chance to allow their fans to watch as many of the games as possible. I appreciate it as I'll turn the first game on and ride out the entire afternoon and evening with a game on. Much prefer that over only getting to really watch 1 or 2 of the games closely because they play all 4 at the same time or 2.

...Is someone going to write game thread introductions for the play offs?

Or are we going neglect our small opportunity to ...

I don't know about the writing but I grabbed 3 nosebleeds to the games off Stubhub. I promise to post a pic from the stratosphere.

One thing that I dont get though is why they didnt do this season just like last year.

End the season on a Wednesday. Start the WC on Friday and play that for a full weekend.

The dumbest thing baseball does is have their final day of regular season on a football Sunday. Like thats the mental part.

Afternoon games for playoffs are going to have to be a thing, they always are.

That's exactly what they're doing in the next round - starting on Friday. The Wild-Card round is the play-in round for the real playoffs.

ESPN doesn't have football to show Tuesday-Thursday and they want some programming. Hence, wild card baseball.

It starts Saturday not Friday.

And they would still have programming through the next week. And ESPN had the rights last year.

Season shouldnt be ending on a Sunday. Youre going to get weekday games regardless

And also starting WC F-S like last year is perfect for building intrigue and momentum for the playoffs.

The deeper into the playoffs you get the better chance you have of competing with football on the weekends. If Fox is going to pay good money to air MLB playoff games instead of college football games on Saturday they'd very much prefer a divisional round than a wild card round. And games 162 that matter have a better chance of competing against football on Sunday than game 159 where there's still 3 games to go.

I'd bet ESPN very much prefers baseball wild card on Tue-Thur with their full compliment of college football games on Saturday. The season was delayed last year so the playoffs were pushed back. Going off a schedule from the season they were coming out of a lockout maybe isn't the best comparison.

People act like these corporations don't know what they're doing. Yes, it's all about the money, but the money comes from eyeballs, and they spend a little bit of time figuring out how to get the most eyeballs on their TVs/computers for these games.

Great Post.

A friend of mine was wondering why there was all this crap on TV.

I told him it was because we watch crap on TV.

We vote every day.

Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet. We chose that.

I wonder if the adjustments to the game have anything to do with how many watch, how long they watch, the demographics of those who watch, what advertisers will pay for the how many, how long and how old.

I really hope somebody in the commissioners office is tracking this stuff. 😉

I know they came up empty the last 18 times...

It's like the opening scene(s) in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

If they find bigfoot... not only can they measure it's feet but the show has to change to "Found Bigfoot".

Last year was a fluke because they had to make up one series because of the lockout. Originally it would have ended on Sunday.
