In the NFL, players will stop at the 1 yard line so the other teams have no chance of winning. Would any manager dare to tell the runners not to run home so the opposing team can't pitch a non-pitcher, thus forcing the Guardians to keep using up their pitchers in this case? I don’t object to the strategy and using these rules to their benefit that don’t benefit the opponents in the same way. I wouldn’t call it brilliant, though. Yes, playing the long game is what he is doing. It’s what every team does. I just object to this being within the rules of baseball because it ceases to be a serious game. It’s not what any fan pays to see. Of course, it could then be argued that it ceased to be a serious game after Giolito gave it up. But, that happens. Not sure what the solution is other than to create a system of levels. Down by 20 in the 6th, okay, down by 15 in the 7th okay, down by 10 in the 8th okay … or something like that

Giolito gave up nine runs in three innings for a game ERA of 27.0

Fry gave of 10 runs in four innings for a game ERA of 15.75.

Looks to me like Giolito is the mockery.

If you don't like what you are watching/listening to then turn it off and do something else, Don't expect attendees who may have travelled a considerable distance to go to the game that they should accept to have the game cancelled because you don't like it.

Just thinking, it was so nice for the Twins and Guardians to celebrate the impending start of the NFL season by playing their own NFL match. Twins win by two touchdowns!

He needs to use any means within the rules to that end. Trying to set his team up to win the next two games was of highest importance. He needed to protect his bullpen. Using a position player to pitch was by far the best thing he could have done. Burning relief pitchers in that situation would have been disrespectful to any knowledgeable fan and to the game.

What about the fan who comes to one game a year and that game was last night.  What Francona did was more disrespectful of the game than not burning thru his bullpen.  You get your butt kicked, suck it up and take the consequences.  That was not a major league game last night after the 5th inning.

Had I traveled a considerable distance-and paid MLB prices- to attend that game I'd prefer to get 9 innings of MLB play.
