I am not worried about the division lead but share the Gallo comments and the praise for Michael Taylor.  We just have to play 500 ball the rest of the season because Cleveland cannot.

The big pay days for short stops is not looking so good now.  Correa is injured and we do not know if his body will allow him to come back to his level next year, but Story and a number of other ss are playing way below their contract value.

But it is not my money.

If you don't like the results the top free agent SS are producing this year I should tell you to not look into how the top free agent starting pitchers are doing.  Last time I checked I think there was one on some list of the top 50 free agents who had taken the ball all season and had an ERA under 4.00. The rest were all terrible and/or injured. Big free agents can be awesome but are frequently being paid for work done in their younger years. That's why the team options and vesting built into Correa's contract are so important.

He's not making excuses, he's taking the field and giving what he has..

Ok, and from a hitting perspective, "what he has" is hurting the team.

No, he's still playing better than putting Farmer there every day.

Because he's playing, and not on the IL?  If he's too hurt to play, he shouldn't.  If he's in the lineup, he needs to be perform.  No need to hand him an excuse.

To clarify, I was asking the poster to substantiate the assertion: "He's not injured" . Hence my comment: "How would you know?" It's not about handing an excuse to Carlos Correa, as you put it.

Basically the game boiled down to when Lewis hit his home run. We lose if it's a solo shot and we win if it was when we had bases loaded or when we had two men on. Not complaining, just saying.

Yep , it wasn't meant to be , hitting a grand slam 3 games in a row ...

Lightning doesn't always strike in the same place ...

Lewis is a player to watch  , any baseball personal will tell you he could be something special  ....

We need more players like Lewis ...

Farmer has a higher WAR than Correa in 23 fewer games. In fact, Correa is 10th among Twins hitters in WAR despite leading the team in games played.

And honestly comparing a $30mil/yr guy to a career backup says all you need to know about Correa's season.  I don't think the Twins signed Correa to provide Kyle Farmer-esque numbers or rack up the 10th best WAR on the team.

I know we desperately want Correa to be great.  But by any hitting measure, he's been really bad.  It's ok to say it.

If Farmer started at SS for the next three weeks his numbers would drop.  So far Rocco's been spot starting him where it looks like he'll have an advantage. But starting every day means him facing more righties, more tough pitchers, fewer selected match-ups.

And just clarify the WAR thing, Correa and Farmer have .702 and .704 OPS right now (..307/.395 vs .310/.394 obp/slg) so not a huge offensive difference other than the massive number of GDP, which you'd kind of expect from a guy who has been fight plantar fasciitis most of the season.

Now plantar fasciitis is an excuse for hitting into double plays?

As far as using plantar fasciitis as an excuse, if Correa had taken a couple months off to treat it back in May, maybe he would be back to full strength by now, or at least managing it fine. There would be no negative impact to the teams place in the standings. I will guess that Correa has got a Wally Pipp thing going on here with Royce Lewis at short, and won’t admit it. Or he is trying to be Superman. Or it’s the mildest case of plantar fasciitis on record. Or a combo platter of all those things.

As far as the pop up he let drop, Correa wasn’t available for questions after the game. We know he’s a smart player. Like the rest of you, I assume he saw something that wasn’t there or got his signals crossed. Mistakes happen. According to Gladden during yesterday’s broadcast, Correa decided to go take extra batting practice in the cage after the game during the media period.
