Kel13 Verified Member Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Why do we insist on playing a different lineup every game. Play the hottest hitters until they cool off. Why sit out Jeffers, Julien and Kepler just when we seem to be getting on a roll. Sit them, let them cool off too, and then we can hope someone else gets hot. Unbelievable .
tony&rodney Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 All teams find opportunities to play everyone on the roster, looking for matchups that are favorable. Luplow hits left-handed pitchers well and Farmer and Taylor fare better versus southpaws as well. Julien has had some difficulty in the minor leagues against lefties. It makes sense to use the roster when the team does not have surefire stars across the field.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Kepler hurt his foot. Jeffers is a catcher and can't play every day. This isn't hard.

Jeffers DHed between his last two catching stints - he’s playing well & used to days off. Don’t screw that up. Julien struggles v. lefties. Solano hurt his knee so the other available 1B goes into the game. These things are why there’s more than 9 guys on a team. What’s the mystery?

It's smart management to mitigate your weakness against LHP pitching, at least as much as Baldelli can given the fact that every Minnesota Twin now appears to be terrible against lefties in 2023.

I think nearly 100% of Twins fans agree it's time to move on from Gallo, but, in the middle of the game, Rocco only has the guys on his roster to choose from, and Gallo was the only other guy he feels comfortable putting at 1B after Solano went down.
