Me too. My father is still here, but the time is short at this point.

Here's to your father, and the joys that made our dads smile. Maybe even the Twins sometimes.

For us it was the Buffalo Bisons (Int'l League) and the Cleveland team.

I watched the movie 'Fear Strikes Out' last night.  That movie made me sure I never treated my kids, with the same pressures of life inflicted on Piersall.  I lucked out, by having good, successful kids.

Lived those days w/Piersall's antics. Never knew what Piersall was going to do next. Read the book; haven't seen the movie.

Wasn't it a combination of his upbringing and being epileptic

The Italian name, Liberatore, had me thinking about Latin etymologies as well. I read an interesting tidbit the other day. Originally, Latin words often used “-tor” males and “-trix” for females. So, aviator is a male pilot and aviatrix is a female pilot. The executor is a male who carries out the instructions of a will, whereas an executrix is a female doing the same.

More recently, folks have started to use “-tor” for all adults, because “-trix” are for kids.

I got a learning experience AND the joke paid off at the end. Double win for you tonight.

Probably bipolar depression.

We had a nurse who had it. One day he came to work dressed as a pirate. Nurse manager called me and when I finished laughing ("Bill is at it again, Dave..."), I went upstairs, walked him off the unit and out the door. We gave him some time off and a requirement to get to his doc and get on his meds.

Yeah. I saw it 1st hand too. My Dad had it. Took medication. But if he drank. It was Jekyll and Hyde

I’m a plagiarator.

And apologies for getting to the Game Thread a little late. Mrs. IT gave me a to-do list. I did numbers 1, 3, 5 and 7. When she asked why I didn’t do the rest, I told her that I only do odd jobs.

It's on Turner Movie classics.  I, too, saw Piersall as a player.  Seemed to have been on track, the last 7 or 8 years of his career.

This is the Sonny's achilles heel so far.   6th inning, 3rd time thru the lineup.  Let's see if he goes after guys or starts nibbling.

It was nice to have Sands go three innings last night to preserve the bullpen.

I remember in high school, we had a catcher who caught with one knee on the ground.  Our baseball coach told him him, he was lazy. "No coach, I'm not lazy, it's just a better way for me to get down and block pitches".  So, our coach say, " Not lazy huh? Give me 20 laps around the field."
