This bullpen is still very bad, but when the hitters are hot like this, we can still win games. It's really time to consider trying different relievers, a rookie if necessary.

Yup... his gifts to his teammates.... letting all the inherited runners in doesn't tell a complete story.

5 inherited runners this year so far ..... 5 inherited runners scored. Gifts to his teammates. Those count in the win loss column, but not in his stat line.

Apparently Wes Johnson's power-pitching lessons tend to wear off. Not terribly surprising, given the subtle timing and body adjustments that it takes to get those extra few mph. If you drift back to your old ways, the extra velocity goes away instantly, as well as the better command. Personally, I was never able to throw a baseball faster than about 75 mph because nobody taught me how to really use my legs and body.

I seem to recall that Stashak at one point was bringing his heater at 94 to 95. Duffey was up to 97. Theilbar was up around 94, but with better command. Even Rodgers had better command soon after completing the course. It's not just the velocity; the efficiency of ideal mechanics allows a pitcher to bring the hotter heat without exerting max effort, so it actually improves command, too.

Solution: They all need a refresher course. It happens in all other sports, too. Tennis players keep taking tennis lessons. I assume hockey players and basketball players keep working to perfect their games, too.

I like Polanco much better as a righty. He doesn't pull off on his swing. He seems to constantly step in the bucket and pull off when swinging as a lefty. Pulls his shoulder out. Just not a pretty swing. Totally different from the right side.

Noticed the same thing. I was wondering why some people were saying he should stop switch hitting. He really does look better swinging righty. .242 versus .190 batting lefty (small sample). As a righty Polanco stands more upright, and he seems to get stronger wrist action.

That is true. Also, all of those runners were put on by the same guy (Robles). Hmm

Well, I don't think Johnson went anywhere. He is there everyday. If it was just a refresher course, it seems that it would happen once a day everyday.

Logging on for a quick check before heading to bed, so apologies if these have been mentioned, but what about Lim and Amber, Fibber McGee and Molly, and The Life of Riley?

So i am not sure i was exposed to Lim and Amber (i wanted to think you meant L'l Abner for some reason), I definitely heard some Fibber McGee and Molly (Johnson and Johnson wax for the shine) and i heard of The Life of Riley, but i don't i recall anything specific about it.

Nah, what stuck with me were things like Harry Lime as The Third Man. And of course we tuned in for Prairie Home Companion. And i believe i often was conveniently being picked up from something in the car as Paul Harvey came on with the rest of the story (so i knew what Dastardly meant in a previous game thread)

Auto correct (or fat fingers) caught me on the former. It should have been "Lum and Abner." As a kid in the early 70s, WMT-600 (Cedar Rapids) syndicated one of the old radio shows each weeknight. Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. They ran the Jot 'Em Down Store. According to Wikipedia, it was based on the town of Waters, Ark., which renamed itself to Pine Ridge in 1936 to match the fictional name from the show.

My favorite was "The Life of Riley," where my favorite character was Digger O'Dell, the Friendly Undertaker. Said undertaker would often help characters, uh, out of a hole.

There is a baseball connection with the latter. Playing Chester A. Riley was William Bendix, who also played the title character in "The Babe Ruth Story."
