minn55441 Provisional Member Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Can Ponder Pitch, he should have a bunch of free time over the next few seasons. Too bad he isn't left handed,

DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 Surprised that we didn't have a Joe Webb sighting... The minute they put in Webb over him I think Ponders career as a Viking is done, which I don't think is a bad thing, but I sorta understand the rationale behind it. At this point, I hope they realize how terrible Ponder is the rest of this year and take a serious run at Alex Smith. Then try to grab a decent QB in round two or three for the future. Landry Jones could be a nice sleeper candidate, dude has all the weapons.
YourHouseIsMyHouse Provisional Member Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 The Vikings coaching staff is full of idiots who have made no progress with Ponder from last year (regressed even) and now they're too stubborn to try someone else. You have to give it to him though. In all the years of Viking's QB mediocrity, this guy takes the cake. Spielman needs to be shown the door. I think Minnesota should have went after Chad Henne. If they don't pursue a new QB in the draft or acquire another viable starter, I'm done with this team. I've reached my breaking point and can only take so much crap from a hapless organization. I'll put my attention elsewhere.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 That was awful. Horrible, brutal, awful.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Never fear, some Vikes fans still want to make excuses! I'm not sure how to rectify the feelings of being right about Ponder from the start and the fact that being right meant certain doom for the team. Ugh.
wavedog Verified Member Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 This game was an indictment on the entire organization: Speilman - how can we not have some adequate receivers. Coaching - we can't run some pass plays with the entire Packer defense playing the run? Ponder - bad enough that you can't throw completions - but you cannot throw interceptions when you are in scoring position - throw the ball away. Haven't you learned anything in 2 years? Defense - no pass rush against a beat-up offensive line - and can't make the plays on 3rd down. Wasted a great effort by Adrian Peterson. Such a frustrating game to watch.

Landry Jones could be a nice sleeper candidate, dude has all the weapons. I think after today the writing is on the wall. Between the many missed open looks and the incredibly horrible INTs, I'm not sure how much more they can take. Look. I too understand the need to run him out there. They put all their eggs in his basket. He just is not improving. I was very surprised that Webb did not get the ball after the Packers 4Q FG. Ponder had been ineffective all day, a win here keeps them in the playoff hunt, make the move. Now, their playoff hopes are crippled, and it doesn't get any easier next week. I don't think they can afford to gamble on another rookie QB. I'm not a huge fan of Alex Smith, but I believe he will be the best option available this year. If not Smith, then who? If the Vikes can get an impact WR in the draft, along with some secondary help and a decent QB, they could be a legitimate threat next year.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Ponder has been bad, but shouldn't we be blaming the WRs? They aren't there. I think the title of the topic should be:AIDS>Jerome Simpson
clutterheart Verified Member Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Ponder appears to be bad. But they have to play him because their GM drafted him...and somehow Frasier takes the blame? Why are fans are so quick to jump on Frasier but the GM (whose overall track record is spotty at best) remains untouched? But if we are going to talk Football, you should talk about the Motherfreaking Sea HAWKS!!! Their 3rd round QB might beat Peyton Manning's rookie QB record.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I have daily sheets that I have to fill out in my job... I have a cup holder with pens to my left and I have pens of different colors... About a Month ago... I selected a Green Pen for a Saturday because North Dakota was playing Football that day and I selected a Purple Pen on Sunday because the Vikings were playing. Both teams lost so I figured that I had the Pen strategy backwards. So the next week I decided to specificallly not use Purple on Vikings gameday. The Vikes did win that week when I avoided Purple and I have stayed with that strategy but it hasn't been consistent. I have come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter what pen I use as long Ponder is at QB.

Speilman has been getting plenty of heat, but he also did well with a pretty great draft this year. Frasier takes some of the blame because he is the one who is choosing to keep Ponder out there. Also I imagine he had some say in drafting Ponder as well? Also I'm not advocating for the firing of Fraiser at this point, especially in the case of a "fire just to fire him"scenario. I do think they should find out if a guy like Gruden would be interested in coming on board.

TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 #1 - Saying Ponder sucks is making excuses for what exactly?#2 - EVERYBODY hated the pick. Huh? Reading comprehension gets a thumbs up. People have been making excuses for Ponder for months in this state - the true crappiness of his play is now shining through all that BS. And no, there are a lot of people in this state that have played the "well....let's wait and see!" game.
Please Provisional Member Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I don’t know how more heat isn’t being pushed on Leslie? Remember, he’s the idiot who pushed for McNabb last season when it was pretty clear that he was a washed up piece of crap. He’s the one sticking with Ponder even though he’s made T-Jack look like Johnny U. Even Childress was smart enough to bring in vet backup in Gus and sat T-Jack when he looked completely lost out there. Leslie has tied his ship to Ponder and sadly it’s only a matter of time before that ship is gonna sink.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I'm not sure how much say Leslie has had in who starts at QB. He was the Vikings first pick after all.
