David Price? Eovaldi?

The Sox eat 3/4 of Price's contract, where the Twins would be paying $8M per the next 3 seasons....Price then might be a welcome addition.  I see in no way where the Twins would want Evoldi.  His contract is huge and was not good by any means last season.

Funny article. Price would provide stability at the back-end of the rotation. Why would the Twins be not looking for at least a 2 or 3 starter, not a 5.

Exactly what I thought when I read that part. 4-5 starter? Resign Kyle Gibson for less than the prorated cost of Price... "The twins have a top 10 Bullpen" "They could move Eavold to the bullpen" .... Uhhhhhh.....?!?

Price's numbers last year weren't awful.  3.62 FIP, 10.7 K/9, 2.7 BB/9.  The problem is he is owed $32M per year for the next 3 years....which gives him sorely negative value.

park and league adjust XFIP- Price 82, Gibson 83. Why give up prospects to buy low on Kyle Gibson or a bag of balls and a ginormous contract for Kyle Gibson when you can just sign him off the street for a very reasonable contract?

No on Price period. Sure if Boston paid 3/4 of his salary, but that would defeat their purpose in moving him then..

Price is making 32mil. Sign Wheeler and Bumgarner for 36-40mil per season combined. You have 2 better SP and only lose two 2020 draft picks and not whatever prospects you do send to Boston for Price.

Price isn't happening.

Nor is 36-40 million a year for the two free agents happening

The gist of this blog entry seems to be that, if such a trade were to happen, his immediate reaction would be the classic "Great trade! Who'd we get?" :)

If the Twins acquire either pitcher it needs to be because their savants see actual quality on an absolute competitive scale that moves them toward postseason success. Not just getting the Sox to pay part of the salary so that we can acquire a "name", nor professional courtesy to help another team out of the mess their fired GM got them into.

I'm dubious that Price has enough left in the tank, and Eovaldi once was a touted prospect whose high-water marks remain 2013 and 2015.

Read the article and found it...interesting. I guess on paper it makes some sense. Some.

But why not keep our prospects and use our payroll for different guys, including Hamels or Pineda for that #4 spot? I'd like that much more than Price at this point.

And we wonder why the FA market hasn't been so crazy about high $ and long term.

Incidentally, the baseball trade simulator https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trade-simulator/ , which evaluates "surplus value", has Price and Eovaldi both so deeply negative in value, that if paired up for trade the Sox would also have to give up both Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi (as one way to do it), just to get to break-even for nothing of significant value in return.

Surplus value isn't the whole story - if you like a player's contribution enough, and if you are not budget-constrained, then maybe you consider it a privilege to overpay for their services. But, the above site does provide some enlightenment.

Hmmm, you drive a hard bargain, but sure. Let's do that trade.

My main takeaway from using that tool is that the Red Sox mission to cut salary is going to be difficult. Finding a fellow GM who values the expensive players in the way that fits is critical - and to my mind, not likely.

Sure it would defeat the purpose, but that is the only I accept a trade for Price :D
