First game with Cruz on the IL and Garver sitting AGAIN.

 

Garver has been on the bench for six of the past nine games and has started just 30 of 59 games since June 1.

 

This is weird.

He probably has some performance bonuses they don't want him to attain!

When games ended on June 3, the Twins were 40-18 and Cleveland was 29-30.  Since that nite, Cleveland has gone 40-16.  So they got just as hot in the last 56 games as the Twins did to start the season.  I wouldn't call it pissing away a lead.  I'd call it the other team scorching the field.

 

But if you want to give up, go for it.

That's the thing with going on a crazy tear in April-May... being the best team in the first half of the season is fun, but you don't win championships that way. You win them when you get hot late in the season, and carry the momentum into the playoffs. I don't know how many times I've seen in the MLB and NFL teams had world-beating first halves just to peter out in the second half.

 

The Twins desperately need a kick in the pants to get things going.

There was an awful lot of praise heaped onto Wes Johnson in the first half, given the success of Perez, Odorizzi, et al. So, when does he start taking heat for the utter collapse of this pitching staff?

Who has even overachieved at this point? Right now the only names I can think of are Odorizzi and Harper. Once again, our pitching development has been lackluster...

I’ll call it “playing not as good as they should have against bad teams and being 5 games under to good teams in that stretch.” Because that’s how they blew an 11.5 game lead

I also think the Indians deserve a ton of credit because they've suddenly turned this team around and look like they're back to being a WS contender again. I know we love to rag on the Twins, but Cleveland looks legit.
