Interest in Greg Holland?

He was just DFA'd by Arizona today.

 

 

He was one of the 20+ relievers the TD writers featured in July at the trade deadline. Now there's an opportunity to acquire him on the cheap.

Decent K rate. Horrendous walk and HR rates. And of course, the Twins don’t get first pick anyway. But I would pass. I don’t think he’s better than internal options.

Really extreme home/road splits for him this season - isn't Arizona still a hitter's park? Just SSS I guess. But his road numbers don't give much encouragement that he'll do well for his next team.

At this point, I'd give him a shot, but he will probably be claimed before us...

For roughly a half season of relief pitching, I'd guess home/road splits are pretty meaningless. He had 4 games with multiple runs allowed this year, and all 4 came on the road. All four were night games, on grass* too. I don't know that those splits would have much predictive power.

Small samples can't contain much meaning. But whatever little meaning I can see there doesn't tilt toward acquiring him, was the point I was driving at.

At that point, though, you're pretty much just doing the same thing as looking at his overall numbers for 2019, which aren't that impressive.
