Giancarlo Stanton fit 9 games in between IL stints this season.  He will not reach 124 games for the 6th time in his 10 year career.  Should be averaging about 120 games per season or less if he returns sometime in August.

 

I wonder if he will reverse this injury trend or if his games per season will decline further when he starts his 30's in a few months.

The Mets off-season has not lived up to the hype. At the halfway point, Wilson Ramos and JD Davis are the only adequate additions from the off season.

Edwin Diaz 5.50 ERA, 3.64 FIP (gave up 5 players, 2 top 10 prospects)

Keon Broxton .143/.208/.163 (traded 3 prospects and since lost Broxton on waivers)

 

Justin Wilson 4.22 ERA, 5.64 FIP (2 years/10M)

Diaz should be a fine addition but the cost of the prospects and having to pay and roster Cano for 5 years makes it likely that the trade never looks good for them.

Why not? It's a baseball skill. It's emphasized more over there, but it's a legitimate talent that currently is under-developed here. I don't want it as the highlight of the festivities - but as one of many events, I think it's fun.

That's the point of my post. The Arizona Fall League hitting competition requires hitters to hit balls to various places throughout the field. This as part of a larger competition like that, sure, but on its own, no thank you.

I'm pretty sure you can't take that literally, because there's only 25 roster spots on the big league team to fill. 

 

However, I would rarely let a big league need go unfilled if I could fill it using minor league talent. Today, for example, I'd happily trade Lewis for a good big league pitcher. I know he was the number 1 overall pick, but he's already lost value, and the more he continues to flail at SS, and put up substandard offense in A ball, the lower that will go. If he goes on to big league stardom, I wouldn't second guess, I'd just be happy that I found a way to help the 2019 team when it needed it. 

 

And at this point, the chances Lewis goes on to big league stardom are fairly low. If he could hit, there's a pretty strong chance he'd have shown it already. 

 

I realize I'm in the minority with this opinion, but it's one I hold and feel is proven out to be correct way more times than proven wrong.

 

Relative to the original point, think what KC could have gotten for Bubba if they'd had the courage to trade him a year after drafting him.

FWIW, I think FGs still likes him. And being ranked in the 20s or 30s still says that the rankers still think he's got a good shot of being very good.

In all seriousness, I am no expert when it comes to minor leaguers. I just have a bias towards cashing them in. Sometimes you'll get burned, no doubt. But I think you'll get the better of it way more than not.
