ashbury Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 I didn't see a game thread up, so I started one, even though I can't really stay... just to say: Jake Cave is not a reliable center fielder. Ash out.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Thanks, Ash. Does that mean I get the game thread all to myself? This should be fun.
mrmpls Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 And Jiminez should of made that play at the plate,

mrmpls Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Ya it gets pretty quiet around here this time of the year, Hopefully next year EEH!!
David HK Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Heh... busy day at "work," but I just checked into gameday for a moment. Just a thought-- They may need a new batter icon when Astudillo is at the plate... Looks nothing like him.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Uh, let’s see — anybody got a good recipe for, oh, I don’t know, enchilada casserole or something?
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Strike two to Goodrum was about the worst pitch ever swung at by a major leaguer.
David HK Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 ...Ullllp.... Well, another check in with the gameday-- It was really nice to see "Effective Jake" for a brief time there, and get a glimpse of the pitcher we thought we were getting, opening day starter and all. But now we're back to the good ol' Jake we've come to know throughout the season. Ho-hum.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Well, a 2 HR game for Johnny Field... as expected.
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Should NOT be a base hit. The throw went past the first baseman before the batter-runner got to the base. 2-base E-1.
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Blyleven talking about his hitting stats: He batted .131 with 59 hits including 7 doubles. 25 RBI, which seems pretty good for someone with no triples or home runs.
Linus Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Bert is a complete moron. He can’t wrap his head around an opener concept and what that might do to historical stats ......

Average climbed to .194 in those situations.

IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Let’s see — two teams with a combined record of 136-177 and we’re at 2:38 through five innings.
glunn Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Twins are winning 11 to 4 in a meaningless game. Yet I want insurance runs. As for Astudillo, he is the main reason that I am watching this game.
glunn Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Let’s see — two teams with a combined record of 136-177 and we’re at 2:38 through five innings.Lots of runs takes time.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Let’s see — two teams with a combined record of 136-177 and we’re at 2:38 through five innings. I figure they're just doing what they can to keep us from missing baseball for as long as possible after the season finally ends. On the other hand, if they could crank out double digit offense most of the time, I'd probably build my after-work schedule around every broadcast.
glunn Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Amazing catch by Astudillo -- should be a top 10 on ESPN for the year. Or at least for today. He really got up into the air for that one.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Tigers are really bad...
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Let’s see — two teams with a combined record of 136-177 and we’re at 2:38 through five innings.Yeah but Gardenhire ordered an intentional walk of Mauer, so that speeded up the game quite a bit. Also, for anyone who is only watching to see Mauer at bats at this point.. thanks, Gardy!
LaBombo Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Tigers are really bad... Yup, and the Sox and Royals are too. It's an almost historically bad season for the Central despite the Indians being very good. And maybe it's no fair to pile on a bad season for a struggling organization, but the Twins would probably be a 100 loss team in almost any other division.
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 So I was busy doing other stuff on the computer when the second base umpire ****ed up the call in the should-have-been-a-triple-play. If he had done it right, he would have determined that the shortstop was not on the base when he caught the ball and should have made no out call. Nor should he have made a safe call because the runner who began the play at second base still has to get back to the base. There's no call to make because at that point no play has been made. It's the same deal as a play at home plate where the runner doesn't touch the plate and the catcher doesn't make the tag. There's no play until one of those two things happens. Instead we go through a messy review where a runner who had left the field of play gets placed back on second base. I guess even the best umpires make mistakes sometimes.
glunn Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 I now want Astudillo to steal third base.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 So is Astudillo going to win a batting title next year, or what?
LaBombo Verified Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 So is Astudillo going to win a batting title next year, or what? The harder everyone works at not comparing him to Brian Harper, the more he reminds me of Brian Harper.
glunn Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 So is Astudillo going to win a batting title next year, or what?Good question.
