Game Thread 9/10 vs Yankees

you see other teams bringing up 19-20 year olds

Not unheard of, but when it happens it makes news, which is maybe why you notice.

 

Looking right now, there are 8 players in their age 19 or age 20 seasons in the majors at some point this season.

 

Juan Soto plays for the Nationals.

 

The other 7 play/pitch for Atlanta.

 

Take that for what it's worth. But it's not some universal thing "other teams" are doing constantly.

Boy, that Sanchez HR was hit from almost below his knees. He has some serious power, but not much contact from him this season.

Busenitz didn’t have it tonight - not sure he has had it any night lately.

Yeah, Busenitz just doesn't look like he's got it in him to get MLB hitters out. I wouldn't be surprised if he was DFA'd at the end of the season/offseason... but at least they've given him a chance to prove that he can't.

At the beginning of the year was this BP supposed to be improved over last year?  Maybe it did.  Doesn't seem like it.

Well, that was supposed to be due to the Reed-Pressly-Rodney-Duke-Rogers core, which was decent, but they're kinda gone (three of them), ineffective/injured? (Reed), and really good (Rogers).

I guess I forgot Hildy. He's been either really good or really bad, but unfortunately it's felt like a 50-50 split from him. A bit of Jekyll and Hyde for Hildenberger.

This is where time of possession can be so misleading....3 hours in and our pitchers have had the ball for about 150 minutes, Yankees pitchers, maybe 30 minutes.

 

Yet, somehow we trail.

The problem is, having Grossman out there isn't quite as egregious as having Petit or Field out there. There just isn't a lot of position players in the high minors ready yet. Wade and Gordon weren't doing so hot in AAA, and they're not going to start some guys' clocks too early, it seems.

Plus Grossman has the only RBI hit for the Twins and he's hitting .310+ since his activation from the DL. Not an exciting player, but they're gonna keep trotting him out there.
