Methinks his only hope at being a MLB pitcher is in the bullpen.

Eh, no biggy if he doesn't cut it as a starter. I'd have to look it up to be completely sure, but it's not like the Twins burned a really high draft pick on him or something, right?

Edit:

Stewart's 79 mph curve for a strikeout was the type of pitch that he needs to have in his back pocket when he needs it (Berrios has an even better one).  I don't agree that there is 'not much to like.'  Being able to throw 95 with that much movement, as well as being able to drop in a nice 79 mph 'bottom out' curve is the difference between a move to the bullpen and a starter.  Consistency will be his barometer.  Berrios passed this test year 1-3

Stewart is really a mess isn't he?

I'd leave him in here. He seems to be getting every-other guy out (that isn't saying much unfortunately).

I oppose taking Stewart out with two outs in the fifth up two runs. I think that was a bad decision. How’s he going to learn to get through?

Fire Molitor.

So near, and yet so far...

In fairness to Stewart, he did show a little more tonight than in his first two outings. And watching him beats having the front office call Ricky Nolasco to see what he's up to these days.

Rosie has such a great feel for the game, especially when it comes to baserunning (on offense and defense).

He just looks...not ready. Certainly not for the 2019 rotation, even as a guy competing for the fifth spot. Maybe, maybe, a mid reliever with options.

Did you see Garver standing there waiting for the throw as if he was watching paint dry? Trying to decoy the runner. Love to see that.

They didn't protect him last winter.  Not surprised, but I certainly think they should now.  He has the 'stuff,' the question is does he have the capability to build on his command, control, and guile.

Stupid decision by Molitor. Manage to help players develop, not to clinch second place with a losing record.

Sometimes it feels like Molitor and Falvine are on different pages.  One is 'win now,' while the others are playing 'for the future.'  I get why Molitor is doing this, but I also understand if they let him go because of it.  He is not the right fit for where they are at present.

What's the deal about pulling Stewart? He was at 98 pitches and wasn't looking so great, so I thought it was a fine decision.

See if he can fight through the fifth and leave with a chance for a win. Much better mindset for his next game, whether he gets the win or not. Develop the players confidence.

Likewise, I fail to get through Stairway to Heaven without crying, either.

Guess who's eyes can't, either?

These eyes, that's whose.

There is such a noticeable difference between Roy Smalley and Bert Blyleven. Both are much older than guys like Morneau or Hawkins, but Roy understands the role that everyone plays and their importance.

The moronic things that come out of Bert's mouth, along with Morris and Kaat, make me question whether they even paid any attention during their playing years.

For example, Roy understands that Khris Davis is going to strike out a lot en route to 40+ bombs. Ask any of those old pitchers, they will say that "he needs to use the whole field. He needs to learn how to hit. Etc."

"Teach the hitters how to hit" seems like a lofty suggestion, don't you think? To suggest that professional hitters don't know how to hit seems a little extreme if I do say so myself. It's not as easy to consistently beat a shift on a 95 MPH fastball that paints the outside corner as they want to make it out to be. Not as many pitches were as fast back in their days, so I can see why they get confused in that regard, but that level of ignorance to the realities of today's game is infuriating.

Roy Smalley isn't young, but he understands that it's not his place to trash the game happening right before his eyes when he's not on the field showing something different.
