Game Thread: Twins @ Kansas City, 7/22/18 @ 11:15 AM PT (1:15 PM CT)

For some reason I got a bit nostalgic and started thinking about how my dad used to listen to baseball on the radio as we did some work on the house. Then there were other time we'd be returning home from some function dad had attended that was part of his job, and, again, baseball would be on the radio:

 

 

*Yes, this was an excuse to put up this video, because, A: I like the baseball references and, B: I think it's hilarious.

 

Coming out of the break, the Twins had given me some hope they were going to right the ship and get things back on track:

 

 

*Notice the tracks are rather short. 

 

But, never fear, it's a new day and another day of baseball!

 

 

*I tossed this in for MIA TwinsNorth, who wit and insight I've missed this year.

 

Now that everything even remotely related to baseball has been put up, (what, you've never heard of "6 degrees of separation?" Anything and everything can be connected to baseball. All else is madness!) I leave you with the following thoughts that may or may not be thoughts worth thinking:

 

 

 

Some random observations from last night:

 

1. Dick and Roy made a pretty good observations, last night, about strikeouts versus putting the ball in play.

2. The Twins seem to be sort of flat, which is puzzling, to say the least.

3. Congratulations to Mr. Mauer for the double and his entry into the Twins record books!

4. Mauer continues to hit, which is great to watch.

5. KC had more walks than hits?

ashburysteven and I will be at today's game, but I don't think I have the technical chops to post anything to this thread while at the ballpark using just my phone. We're on a road trip taking us also to Cincy and Philly before reaching Boston for a couple more Twins games.

Yeah ... we're being less formal with game threads these days. Those who have signed up to do them, still will. For the other dates, Tom will put something up. Or, if Tom can't, it'll just be up to whomever wants to get it started. And we aren't pinning or archiving them any longer. But since you asked I guess glunn obliged. It's not like they can't be found. If they are active, they'll pop up anyway.

Glad to see Morrison's hip impingement is better. He looked much more fluid striking out and hitting into what should have been an inning ending double play. Why is he playing again?  never thought I'd see us get a player who made me nostalgic for Kennys Vargas. 

He was good last year, and might have nominal trade value if he heats up.

Some nice local folks pointed us towards the alternative diamond for today's game. Unfortunately the inexpensive seats we had bought over the internet were slightly obstructed.

We complained to the ushers, and they reseated us behind home plate. Looks like the Royals are committed to the rebuild and have brought the kids up.

If Royals win it will be their first sweep of the year. I hope that does not happen.
