Game Thread: Minnesota at Milwaukee, July 4, 2018, 3:10 PM CDT

Hello and welcome to today's game thread. I like using the 5-topic intro so here goes.

1. I don't feel like discussing the Twins.

2. I don't feel like discussing the Brewers.

3. July 4th is designated as Independence Day because on July 4, 1776 the final wording of the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Second Continental Congress. Most of the signatures on the best known version of the document, the one that is displayed at the National Archives, were made on August 2 of that year.

4."The Stars and Stripes Forever", composed by John Philip Sousa in 1896, was named the National March of the United States in 1987 by an act of Congress.

5.

Forecast for weather in Milwaukee at game time:

Skies: partly cloudy

Temperature: 85F, heat index 86F

Wind: SE 9 mph

Precipitation probability: 0%

Starting Pitchers:

Minnesota: Jose Berrios ®, 8-6 / 3.52

Milwaukee: Chase Anderson ®, 6-6 / 4.18

Lineups and batting orders TBA.

I hope residents of the United States of America and citizens of the United States of America not currently in their home country have an enjoyable Independence Day. For everyone else, happy 4th of July!

I'm was born in Minneapolis and now live in Virginia, and it's Independence Day.    Let's hear it for Richard Henry Lee (from the musical 1776).

I tried to figure out how Richard Henry Lee, who wrote the resolution that resulted in the Declaration of Independence, was related to Robert E. Lee. I gave up on trying to confirm the exact connection but I think they were first cousins once removed. I think "Light Horse Harry", Henry Lee III, Robert E. Lee's father, was a cousin of Richard Henry Lee.

The Astrudillo as our regular super-utility (not a catcher, definitely not a catcher) era is apparently over, then?

another day of opportunity for the twins: the cubs have designated chris gimenez, hitting .143, for assignment.

Dozier hitting 3rd? He would either be benched or hitting 7th or 8th on any other major league team. Our MOY is really special.

Dozier isn't even trying. That "play" looked like he was just trying to protect his face

I like that tactic though. Throw at the guy's face and let him strike himself out on the bunt attempt.

Et tu, jokin? You’re ‘strudelizing’ Astudillo’s name now, too?

Dozier has 8 errors this season. He can't even keep OPS over 700. Yet our MOY let him hit 3rd in the lineup. Why is Astudillo sitting? I would even prefer Grossman over Dozier at this point.

8 errors in half a season is about 5 too many from second base.

I have no evidence in support, but it wouldn't surprise me if that number is low seeing how many things have been ruled hits this year when they clearly should be errors.

Edit: And that is absolutely safe.

Edit2: Or not. I definitely disagree based on the angles we were shown.

All Molly can do is keeping writing Dozier into the lineup and hope he finally gets hot, and unfortunately, it's not working.

The second base umpire is completely blind.

Maybe not. But I tell you what, if Thames was off the base between his left foot leaving the base and his right leg touching the base it was for Planck time.

I would like to know how many strikeout looking and strikeout swinging Kepler has this season. Why do you strikeout looking when runners are in scoring position? That's just lazy.

Garver: questions about some of his defense and still developing on the job. Calls a good game, has a strong arm, has some hit potential and power. Up to .261. Could be part of the future still. (Game calling, decent arm and offense can help excuse some defensive lapses.)

Wilson: Good game calling and defense. Hitting in the .130's. No future with the team.

Most days, it's not the pitching that has lead this team to such a poor record. It's been the offense and poor offensive execution.

Which of these guys should be getting the bulk of the playing time behind the plate?

I might consider hitting him second behind Mauer and before Rosario, though I'd be more inclined to slide Polanco there and just see what he does.

Dozier I'd be hitting 5th-7th at this point.
