Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Why, so that Grossman can fight through it instead? He's 1-for-10 with no walks and 5 SOs to start this season.Grossman only needs 10 AB, right? He's all set! ashbury, Borealis, Riverbrian and 2 others 5
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Yeah, sorry. Brain fart. Reed, not Russell. Addison Reed. Thanks. .... Then, to start the inning, or against Davis with two outs to get out of the inning. Hildenberger has been totally not reliable yet this year. You’re not going to bring Reed into the 6th inning. That’s silly. A gimmick pitcher like Hildenberger is always a gamble. Is he the next Pat Neshek or the next Mike Nakamura? You never know until he gets a chance. Given how well he dominated last year I would say he’s earned a little more rope. If he doesn’t turn it arround in 2-3 weeks, I would say it is time to try someone else. The bigger issue is Moya and Kinley. Molitor clearly has no intention of using either in a competitive game. Someone is going to have to go down to make room for Friday’s starter. If Falvine continues to hold on to Kinley, it will have to be Hildenberger or Moya. Borealis 1
Borealis Provisional Member Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 It seems Rosario has currently supplanted Mauer as the most polarizing Twin, which is interesting since they have completely opposite personalities. I suppose that script could be flipped again, but I have the opinion that success of BOTH players is integral to the team’s success (as it was last year). That said, I’m sure rooting for both. ashbury and Han Joelo 2

yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 What's silly about using your best reliever in the most critical situation in the game? The hitters that bat in the 6th are guaranteed another at bat. So, Correa was going to hit again. Point being I don’t consider the start of the 6th inning the most critical situation in last night’s game.

Using your best reliever gives you the best odds of that happening. Of course having the best reliever available to close out a game is nice, but you can't close a game if you're losing.

bobs Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 It's amazing what happens to a pitcher's stats when he's not playing in front of a terrible defense. Detroit absolutely wasted his last couple of years there. I know there were injuries involved but still. All we kept hearing out of Detroit was, "there are some concerns about lost velocity". I distinctly remember him hitting at least 96 at one point last night. All true. What I was getting at is that I'm just really glad we don't have to see him 4-5 times a year like when he was in Detroit.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 As wsnydes said, the competition plays in the same weather... So I'm having a hard time giving guys like Lynn the benefit of the doubt when Verlander pitched in the same conditions and did awesome.I didn't watch the whole game, but I also assume Houston's LF didn't make any blunders in the OF last night.Yes, everyone plays in the same weather but not all guys play the same in cold weather. Just ask Dallas Keuchel. We're seeing crazy (mostly of the bad variety) performances on a near-nightly basis. Yeah, it's disappointing that Rosario isn't playing better... but lots of guys are all over the place. Some are getting away with it (Odorizzi), some are not. Wake me when the weather warms and these players shake off the rust. Then we'll be able to accurately evaluate where they're going as a player. Eleven months ago, there were posters on this forum who literally wanted to see Rosario waived from the team. How did those hot takes turn out after all the dust had settled? Borealis 1

How did those hot takes turn out after all the dust had settled? All fair points, but it's not like this is out of character for Rosario. Personally, I can live with the mental mistakes ams and the below average defense and baserunning if he rakes like he did last year. But I'm not going to pretend those issues don't exist.
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 So, to those that believe Reed should have entered the game in the 6th: Are you further suggesting that it would have been just fine to leave him in through the 8th? If not, what’s the alternative? If you have an alternative, I would argue that pitcher should be pitching in the 6th. You can’t burn Reed out in the first two weeks of the season unless you are prepared to be without him.
jimmer Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Well, many claimed our bullpen was greatly improved and would be good...
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Duke is looking like a more expensive version of Craig Breslow. Rodney looking like a more expensive version of Matt Belisle. If Rodney turns it around like Belisle did, I’ll be happy. However, not sure I want to suffer 3 months of horrendous pitching like Belisle gave the Twins last year.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 Well, many claimed our bullpen was greatly improved and would be good...I don't think we have a large enough sampleb size to know anything about this bullpen yet.

Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 and we had no sample AT All when the proclamations that we had greatly improved our bullpen kept flowing ;-)Yes we did. We have their entire career body of work, which is a pretty large sample size. USAFChief 1
