laloesch Verified Member Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Has anyone been following this? All of the MLB.com fan forums for all teams have been shutdown completely. No warning, just complete shut down. "The message boards are no longer available. We encourage you to continue conversations about your favorite teams, players, hot dog toppings and general baseball topics on social media. Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 People are awful, and we just can't have nice things on the interwebs....which is sad. We should be more informed, more connected, more better...
jimmer Verified Member Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Not hard to believe. The MLB Twins forum got so bad that I stopped going there years ago.
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Yes - I never posted there, but stopped reading their boards a few years ago for the same reason. Even worse was the KFAN boards. I am amazed they lasted as long as they did.
laloesch Verified Member Posted March 26, 2018 Author Posted March 26, 2018 Not hard to believe. The MLB Twins forum got so bad that I stopped going there years ago. I was a long timer lurker there but started posting a couple of years ago during the dark years that ended last season. I'm not surprised. Almost zero traffic in the Twins forum and certain posters (whom i won't mention by name) chased away A LOT of long term posters. Also didn't help matters how bad the team was for years.

We should be more informed, more connected, more better... Some of it had to do with lawsuits and being liable for threats and that sort of thing. Honestly there hasn't been a lot of activity on the Twins forum at mlb.com for many years except for a handful of long time posters. They were really hurt by the team's downturn a few years ago and a plethora of trolls and openly hostile folks who regularly visited that site up until 2010 when interest started to wane.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 We will happily accept any castoff posters here assuming they find the more conversational nature of our threads here at TD appealing. Maybe we'll beat this internet thing yet when TD is the web's last message board still standing because of respect and civility of all things!
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Yeah if there were only some mechanism by which to monitor discussion, ensure civility,.. make sure conversations stay on topic.. Trying to think...

I can be critical, but my level of critical was child's play compared to how that site ended up.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 I didn't know there was a fan forum there. I never could stomach message boards line that. The espn board was fun while it lasted, but we had a lot of really fun posters. I'm sure a good amount will find their way here. I already can't get a word in on tyee baseball forum, I expect it to get worse. Twins daily for me is about the great articles out together by the contributors, and the sports bar.

Have you ever checked out that sub-forum of the Twins Minor League Forum? It's really a great concept for members to write about and follow and report on prospects in the system.
snepp Verified Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 The only difference between the MLB forums, and the KFAN forums, was volume of posters. Both turned into cesspools and are better off not being in existence.

It's really a great concept for members to write about and follow and report on prospects in the system.I used to contribute... Before I had a bunch of kids and traveled for work. I have followed the minor leagues less and less as my schedule fills up. I send more time reading political articles, economic articles, technical articles ect. Sports is much less important to me than it used to be. I've been without cable (and the twins) for years now. For me, there is a balance between sports and life. Investing as much time as I used to would take away from my kids, and learning about the world.

Investing as much time as I used to would take away from my kids, and learning about the world. Sounds familiar. All we need to do now is get older, work less, get kids out of the house, then there'll be plenty of time to sit around on TD. Just ask Chief.
