I’m here in The Fort, at the game. Since this is on ESPN2 today, thought I’d start a thread. Although you cable cutters likely don’t get ESPN2. And tbh, I really don’t pay any mind to ESPN anything anymore. But, a televised game is a televised game.

Definitely worth doing at least once.  Find a job that needs to fly you to Florida... saves on the plane tickets at least.

I'm nearing retirement. So, finding another job probably isn't in the works.

Of course not. But seriously, it's a 2 hour drive from Tampa to Ft Myers. I did it the last two springs. They can suck it up.

On the other hand, I hope this is the first and last game I have to watch Hughes pitch this year.

I've been keeping an eye on Hughes' velocity readings and, well, velocity is putting it charitably.

I'm not sure what Hughes is currently doing qualifies as "pitching" so, you may be safe.

Hughes seems to be throwing between 72 and 82 mph. I have to believe he's working on off-speed stuff today.

He said he knows, he won't have his old speed and needs to make the ball work, at his lower velocity.

But he’s only given up 1 hr so far so not so bad. Until you consider the lineup of the other team is far from their starting 9.

I like that he's honest about it but I just don't see how Hughes survives if he doesn't have the ability to throw 91-92 any more.

I found Alex Rodriguez to be eminently dislikable as he got further along in his playing career. 

 

Now I'm finding myself trying hard not to like him as a media guy / baseball personality.

 

Having a hard time reconciling this.  After all, he's still Alex Rodriguez.

If he can get these same results against a true starting 9, I will have no issues with Hughes still pitching. I’m not sure how I really feel about giving him the opportunity but if he can get satisfactory results, okay.
