So this means Cobb could take a one year, 17.4m deal. If he rejects it, the team compensation depends on how much he signs for.

Here's the primer:

If I read that correctly, if the Twins sign Cobb for less than 50m, they'd lose their third highest pick in the upcoming draft.

I'm not sure the dollar value has any bearing in their case, and it's just the third rounder, period. The Twins qualify under this, don't they?

If the signing team received revenue sharing and didn’t exceed the luxury tax threshold in the previous season, the team only has to surrender its third-highest pick in the next draft.

One team losing a pick, and the other team gaining one, seem to be two separate processes.

Losing their third pick shouldn't really mean a thing.

yeah, this will either be a second, supplemental second, or a third round pick depending on whether they get a supplemental pick like they did last year.  If they think Cobb is the right guy, I think they should do it.

They pick something like 20th, so I'm really not concerned. A top 10 pick would be different.

The CBA changed so it is the 3rd pick that the Twins get in the draft so 2nd or 3rd round. This shouldn't be a factor at all if they want him.

Yeah, the 3rd round pick or whatever shouldn't prevent them at all from scooping up Cobb (if that is what they choose to do)

I've been in on Lynn and maybe Chatwood previously. But the more I look at it and the more I read, I think Cobb has as much upside, for less, though factors as a bit more "unsure" than the other two. He just might be the smarter move and the draft pick just shouldn't be a factor at this point. I think we can all agree on that.
