Game Thread: Twins@Cleveland, 6/24@3:10pm CT

Good Afternoon everyone! (well morning time where you are  )

This is my first time writing up a game thread so I hope you like it. Also I just want to quickly say thanks to everyone that posts messages on this forum; you all seem like genuinely nice people and I am yet to see any viciousness on here  

A few thoughts on the Twins

I’ve not been a baseball fan for very long at all (probably because I’m an English guy from London) and I honestly used to think it was a boring sport....how wrong was I?! The more I have watched the game and understood the rules the more I have enjoyed it. I find myself on the edge of my seat a lot during a game! What a yo yo team! Lol

After reading a lot, gathering opinions and watching games it's become blatantly obvious that there are only 2 or 3 pitchers (Santana, Berrios and possibly Mejia in the future) that the Twins can really count on this season. However despite the current pitching troubles it's pleasing to say that for now at least, the Twins are in contention for the division. I’m sure that after last season that if you were told that you would be in this position after nearly half the season you would have thrown a pie in my face (hopefully an apple pie like the one at the end of the 'speech'….yum...but not a hot apple pie because that could burn my face )

In the short time I have been a Twins fan I have also learnt that Buxton can't bat to save his life but wow, I have to say I am very impressed with his speed and defensive play. Likewise about Mauer except for the speed lol. He’s really impressed me as a first baseman.

Todays game against Cleveland

Firstly, what a great win yesterday against the Indians which included a shutout; it was impressive considering how hot they have been offensively recently. Mejia got out of some very tricky situations so I take my hat off to him. It can only bode well for him in the future. After all, he’s only just turned 24 and can only get better in my opinion.

So today pits Kluber v Gibson. Well we know what a good pitcher Kluber is and Gibson is a decent pitcher when Molitor decides to get on that field and tells him to get his act together...although this would be better if ‘the talk’ was done before the game lol.

The weather forecast looks fine for today in Cleveland so there shouldn't be any 4 hour 50 min rain delays! WOO!
 

Some Twins/random questions for you to answer if you want 

1. Why are the Twins so good on the road and so bad at home? I've heard rumours that there is a Target field curse? lol
 
2. Why do you say your dates backwards? Today's date should be 24/06/17...not 6/24/17...It's crazy  
 
3. My family have a small holiday home in West Palm Beach….now why does it always rain there when Florida is known as the ‘Sunshine State’? (GO DOLPHINS BTW)
 
4. Bit of a touchy subject but....how in the world did the country manage to re-elect George W Bush and now Trump lol? (Lets judge him after his first term but still...not a great start….lol) Having said that, the UK voted for brexit...arghhh!
 
5.Why are the food portions so big in America? I love my food but even I can't eat the massive pizzas lol
 
6.Why is football called soccer in the USA? England invented the game and we call it football so you should call it football as well haha!

We go sequentially through our months, knocking off all the firsts of the month, then the seconds, and so forth. And we don't limit ourselves to 12 months like some other countries do, we have also Octember and Septober and Bleen and so forth - 28 or 30 or even 31 of them all told, I forget exactly. But our months do have only 12 days in them, so that the year comes out evenly at the end. For continuity's sake, we have January 1, just like you do. HTH.

That is how the Japanese write dates. It's also the international standard.

There is also "Saturday." As in "Today is Saturday, who gives a **** what the date is?"

It rains a lot in Florida for a few reasons. It's basically a combination of being next to large bodies of water and lots of sunlight/warm air. Rains almost every day down there during the summer.

 

We have big food portions in America because we feel like it I guess. Maybe we are just bigger people. Maybe we just have a whole lot of food and don't know what to do with all of it. I don't know but it's pretty awesome.

I'm a light eater. Eat a couple 60w bulbs everyday.

 

My brothers-in-law however are prototypical Americans; part pig, part garbage disposal. I once shanghied two of them to help us move. The Little Woman made barbecues for lunch. Mark ate an even dozen. Dan only had eight; he'd had lunch before he got there. Swear to God.

For me, I sometimes come out of a restaurant feeling like I could eat more but I never have that worry in the States
