wavedog Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Has someone checked Buxton's bat for termites? Maybe there are some large holes eaten in it. What are the rules on bat diameters - can he bring a tree trunk up there?
James Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Given a choice, as with all things, i'll dither eternally before settling on... peanutbutter.Oh man, peanut butter Capn't crunch is awesome. Crunchberries are good as well. Not with whisky though.
James Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Castro clearly didn't frame that one well enough.

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Sorry, I haven't been able to keep up with the game thread. I am volunteering at a local elementary school. I asked the class what their favorite letter is, and a little lad's hand shot up and he answered "G!" I was happy to get some participation from the class, so I thought I'd give him a chance to explain. "And why is that, Angus?" Dozier's Glorious Hair, nicksaviking, spinowner and 2 others 5

bighat Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 This game reminds me of the beginning of last year, when a 2-0 deficit might as well have been 10-0.
mazeville Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I've been on the be-patient-with-Buxton bangwagon for some time, but boy this start is causing me to change my mind. I don't know if he was overrated in the minors or the Twins mishandled him or some combination of both. But he's been AWFUL early this season. Jerr, Oldgoat_MN and bighat 3
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 (edited) This game reminds me of the beginning of last year, when a 2-0 deficit might as well have been 10-0. Probably because Grossman and Santana and a player who can't hit (gimenez) are playing and the latter is also out of position..... Edited April 11, 2017 by Mike Sixel bighat 1

I don't know if he was overrated in the minors or the Twins mishandled him or some combination of both. But he's been AWFUL early this season. It is starting to get harder to be patient. But I think at this point you have to keep throwing him out there until something clicks. There is no way he is this bad. In the Spring he was putting the ball in play and making good contact. I know spring stats don't matter, but there is no way a regular season pitcher is this much better than a spring training pitcher which he could handle. Eventually he HAS to hit somewhat . . . Right? bighat 1
Blake Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Am I the only one who winced when Santana looked like he was going to try and make the catch Buxton made?

mazeville Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 So, quit being 'patient.' Lower your expectations, allow him to continue delivering world class defense and hope someday his bat comes around. Kind of works out either way. At this point in the game, that's hard, isn't it? Buxton was the supposed reward for the first in our string of really bad seasons. He was compared early on to Mike Trout and Willy Mays after his first, spectacular season in Class A. And when he finally gets to the majors? Poof. The Buxton we expected hasn't shown up but for one glorious month last year. I personally think he should work out his kinks in the majors and not get sent down - he has nothing to prove in AAA. But we as Twins fans have been told to just be patient, wait for the young guys to arrive, and then all will be well. Kind of hard to lower your expectations after that. cjj td Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I remind everyone of Dozier's season start last year. He was officially done as a viable ML hitter if i remember right. it's a wee bit early to call Buxton's season over. Vanimal46, HitInAPinch and Dozier's Glorious Hair 3
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 6 innings, two runs surrendered.Wasn't great, but good enough to keep Santiago in the rotation. And better than we were used to last year. spinowner 1

Right? The league has a book on him, which they don't use during spring training when they're simply working on pitches and don't care about winning. He's got to figure it out at the big league level.
gocgo Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Why would they put on a pull shift for Castro? Dude has hit opposite field about half the time this year.
Respy Provisional Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I really feel like Mauer or Kepler should be pinch-hitting for Gimenez here.
Blake Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Why would they put on a pull shift for Castro? Dude has hit opposite field about half the time this year.Maybe the idea was to pitch Castro so he'd hit into the shift and the pitcher failed to execute?
rghrbek Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Can't pinch hit for Gimenez, here or later in game, because it leaves us with no back up. Bizarre. Glad he walked. Respy 1
