High heat Verified Member Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Watching this guy this spring I really like and hope he makes the team and gets some decent playing time. I'm in the camp that a good fielding SS is a must, I know Polonco doesn't have a position and needs to play but I think a super utility role for him would have been much better. Adrianza has even hit a bit this spring. I think over all it's much better to have a SS who plays good D and hits a .250 without much power then a guy who's poor defensively and hits.

Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Just throwing this out there, isn't Engelb Vielma basically a younger version of Adrianza? They're both great defenders who can play shortstop, and neither can hit. Going with Adrianza in 2017 is fine, but I think he's pretty superfluous in the grand scheme of things.
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Adrianza showed a bit more pop in the minors. His isolated power was nearly twice what Vielma's is, and Vielma still hasn't played at Triple-A either.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Adrianza is a must-keep, in my opinion. I don't mind average or slightly below average fielding, but if Polanco's bat goes cold or he gets hurt, the Twins have no better option than Adrianza. I love Escobar but Polanco is probably the better player.
Linus Verified Member Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Adrianza is an interesting player. If he hits at all he could be a far better shortstop than anything we have. I hope they can get him to AAA somehow.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Interesting that after a slow start her actually been hitting. I think he's over .300 now, SSS or ST or not, he's been hitting. But how do you keep him, Escobar, Grossman and Santana? I understand the sentiment behind dropping DanSan, but not sure it's going to happen.
