It is two peoples' jobs to gather positive information about Trump every day, and supply it in a folder to him. At least Vice is reporting that....

Sounds like the start of a "How many Norwegians does it take...." joke.

Q: How many people does it take to feed Trump his required daily dose of propaganda to keep him alive?

A: Two, one to send him the email and one to translate Russian to him.

I am not sure he is doing a good job of unwinding and relaxing over his vacation.

I heard the folders discussed on the radio this morning.  Supposedly, if they don't find enough they are supposed to include pictures where he looks good  -- insert easy joke here....

Meanwhile, on a more serious note, he is the worst possible person to be in his position with all that is going on world-wide.  His advisers are Fox & Friends and maybe Game of Thrones.

Not exactly Trump related, but you could argue his rhetoric has made people more comfortable attending a white power rally.  This was at the U of VA last night (not the people from the town).  They were shouting Blood and Soil which has some history in Nazi Germany.  It is the kick-off to a alt-white rally scheduled today.  They are protesting the taking down of a Civil War Monument.

I am sure Trump will have a thoughtful statement about this soon -- speaking out against racist and anti-semantic slogans.  Or, one of the alt-right protesters will get hurt in a confrontation and his statement will be how violet the left is and how they are trying to suppress free speech.

And his statement was pathetic and intentionally ambiguous, with a pivot back to "law and order".

This is going to hurt him politically. It should end him.

Should but won't. Honestly, the racism is being emboldened right now. I flagged a meme today that showed a Muslim man kissing a newborn saying "smells like a new wife." Dead. Serious. People actually laughed at it... I don't have any tolerance for that hate.

I'm not sure. This is the strongest reactions I have seen against him from Republicans.

Virtually everyone in this country hates Nazis and they realize Trump couldn't denounce them.

Charlottesville, VA: Today was about as awful as it gets in modern times. I was not alive in the Civil Rights movement era, but this situation is tremendously evil.

The Orange *******, connected himself to whoever would leach onto him during his presidential campaign, hence, the regeneration of the White Supremacy movement and Trump's lack of calling them out.

Sure, this is coming from a guy on the left side of things, but now I am starting to have a fondness for Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham and John McCain.

Trump is a want to be totalitarian and a ego maniac. Today's events are on him, he stirred up the pot and he needs to own this **** and innocent people died because of it.

The government needs to get rid of this piece of ****. His school yard rhetoric on North Korea is frightening, and his lackluster response to the Hate Mongers in Charlottesville is dumbfounding.

Trump backs his band of awful human beings and he cannot control himself with his racist supporters.

The U.S.A. seems like a bag of **** to me right now. American is suppose to be great. Impeach him or have coup. Either way - get rid of him... please.

In 2009, a girl I was dating fell into this crowd of white supremacists. They have a sizable online presence. Her and I broke up immediately, and I quickly read up on the group. I learned their beliefs, plans, and coded language.

Nothing I saw today surprised me. This is who they are. They will crawl back into their holes now, "lie low" and plot more stupid schemes on their private forums. (These schemes usually only take place online, but they have long fantasized about today.)

And, yes, 45 uses their coded language when he speaks. So did Ron Paul, mind you.

It's a safe guess that the CIA and FBI both have infiltrated these groups, yet somehow we ended up with this president and with Charlottesville anyway. Perhaps they were waiting for this day to happen to take action, we will see.

I have been waiting for the outrage and dismissal of Trump since his inauguration. Lies, outlandish statements, total pivots from his campaign, willful disregard of ethics regulations etc. So far.........crickets mostly. His base has mostly stayed loyal, no matter that he condones white supremacists, has questionable ties to Russia, doesn't have a high school graduate's understanding of the legislative process or diplomacy and on and on. Obvious discrimination towards gays and trans, non-whites and Muslims gets a blind eye. But that almost figures, most of the base believes the untruths that litter Trump's tweets and pronouncements. I figure that to be 25-30% of the entire population.

What about the "principled conservatives" and moderates within the Republican party? What about people that just wanted change or didn't want Hillary? Can't someone say "I voted for Trump, but now I see he is a disaster. He should be gone." My goodness, this presidency is a disaster.

Way too many people believe Trump's seemingly throw-away line about violence on "many" sides. They have bought into the media not showing the leftist violence.

If only we had an historical precedent to fall back on.

I would argue that what you are calling for is mostly happening. I find it unrealistic to expect it move much faster.

There will always be a hard core of supporters, but polls keep showing Trump becoming steadily more unpopular and his strongest supporters to be shrinking.

It's been 7 months, things take time. Republicans aren't going to just give away a chance to pass legislation when they have unified control of Congress and the Presidency. Yet they are still allowing the special prosecutor and Russian sanctions and other things.

I think it took a slight hit after the inauguration but has found a floor.

Did some quick googling and found a poll that shows, among his base, Trump's popularity has gone up a tick since May.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-poll-idUSKBN1A5127

Eighty-eight percent said they would vote for Trump again, a slight improvement over the May figure of 82 percent. Taken together, the polls suggest that Trump’s standing with his base has improved slightly over the past few months despite his Republican Party’s repeated failures to overhaul the healthcare system and multiple congressional and federal investigations into his campaign’s ties to Russia.

Looking at one poll is a mistake, much better doing a 538 style aggregate.

Either way, 88% is still quite a drop. If that was the result last Novemeber it would have been a landslide loss.

Trump will never call out the neo-Nazi "alt-right" just like he won't call out Putin.... He's deeply indebted to these people, and one of the main reasons he's in office today.

He emboldened these racists by giving them a real platform over the entire campaign. Discrediting Obama being born in the US, immigrants coming in to America and TAKING ERR JOBS!

He's continued to give them gasoline to keep their fires going, then casually says from the comfort of his golf cart "Sad! But this is stuff that's always gone on in America." Ummm, no. Not as long as I've been alive has this kind of racism been in the public eye.

Truly makes me sick.

I alaways thought the media was way too silent on what Steven Bannon stood for when he joined Trump's campaign.  This man is the alt-right and he is in Trump's inner circle.

Two of Trump's three tweets today are retweets of someone saying how great he is an how is better than Obama.  His third retweet was a simple statement about the DOJ opening a civil rights investigation.  Even with everything going on - Trump is most concerned about himself being viewed as the greatest ruler ever.

The 538 polls aggregate simple approve/disapprove of adults and voters nationwide. Unless I missed it the site hasn't focused on the "strongly support" group, ie the base, since an article dated May. (This one).

The poll I linked to suggests support among his base found a floor in May and in fact increased in July a bit.

The advice of the media and the left even if actually meaning well is bad for Republican politics especially someone like Trump.  Whats he gain by denouncing them in any way but the way he did?  He can be as wrong as can be and still not be wrong politically.  With everyone of these stories I'm left waiting for more as it gets presented as the worst thing ever no matter the details.  I'm pretty sure at this point Trump makes a point of baiting the media into covering the story in the way he wants.  Even if the media instantly dismisses it they are talking about black on white racism (which clearly exists) more then the rest of history combined.  No matter how you qualify or excuse it all racism is very bad.  He also makes his opponents feel he didn't do what he just finished doing by adding the very real qualifier playing them into the fake news angle.   It might be cheap and dirty, but it's politics and anyone who really knows politics knows cheap and dirty is what works.  As many of you know I hated Trump the whole election and was hopeful he would be impeached.  So far he has done nothing impeachable.  Doing things that don't make sense or are even nuts are not impeachable in most cases.

I don't think he is clearly impeachable at the moment either. That could change when financial records of the Mueller investigation get released.

He is in a spiral to the bottom though. You are probably right about how he is trying to manipulate the media, and I agree much of the "advice" given is not beneficial for him, but all indications are that he's inching down in polls, the strongly supporting are dropping and the strongly opposing are rising. This is really hard to reverse and every action like his on Saturday just make it worse, gives people another reason to stop supporting him. So I'm not sure it's good politics in that sense. And it's not going to get any better.

His shtick really only works with a clear enemy, and while basically everyone hates the media, that just isn't going to cut it long term. I imagine his new strategy of attacking other Republicans is going to be even less successful. People don't care about Hillary Clinton anymore. It's a spiral to the bottom as he continues to flail away, more and more desperate to find an enemy and gain traction.

Haven't heard a thing. Perhaps Facebook pulled the image? I didn't even see another comment.

Sessions was just making the morning news rounds defending Trump's statement.  Somehow Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III with his less than stellar history in race relations (and yet he is AG) making a statement defending your white supremacy stance rings a little hollow.

Trump's tweets today so far are completely avoiding Charlottesville and the fact that people are upset with his tepid, equivocal statement, but he can rant about obstructionist Democrats and how he can fix things.

Posted

Also do not forget the Mosque bombing in Minneapolis. The administration certainly has.

Well Gorka (another ringing endorsement of Trump's views) did say they wanted to make sure it was real and basically said we think it might be really the left behind it.   They are all vile individually, but as a group - it is off the charts.

His latest tweet is calling out someone who had just quit one of his councils.  The reason Frazier quit was Trump's response to Charlottesville.  Trump has not been more vocal in his anger about someone who criticized his weak response than he has been to the actual white supremacists.

Still silent on white supremacists but one of his tweets was to attack Ken Frasier, a black CEO who left Trump's manufacturing council, because of Trump's non-response to Charlottesville.
