Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 It isn’t easy to lose 7 games in a row but the Twins have managed to do just that. Tonight the Twins are in Canada to take on the Powerful Blue Jay hitters and if they try real hard they can make it 8 or 10 in a row.Unusual conditions in Toronto. The forecast is 28 and you can drive 105.Here are some things to think about: 1. Polar Bears – 50% (that might be rounded up or down because exactly 50% seems incredible) of the world’s population of Polar Bears are in Canada. The other 50% are on the constant lookout for Seal and will follow its prey around the globe. For example… The 4 winds Casino in New Buffalo, Michigan where Seal is performing tomorrow night.2. Hockey – They take their Hockey seriously in Canada. A reporter was watching some kids play Pond hockey outdoors when a rabid Rotweiler burst onto the ice and started attacking a kid. Another kid skated up and killed the dog with his hockey stick. The reporter wrote the headline… Young Leaf Fan Heroically Saves Another Child. When talking with the kid… he revealed that he was actually a Canadien Fan. So the reporter changed the headline to… Little French Bastard Kills Beloved Family Pet.3. Tim Hortons – Canadians are crazy for Tim Horton’s. You can get a cup of coffee… a donut and breakfast biscuit and from that simplicity… Boom… Over 4 thousand stores serving maybe (I’m guessing) 20 thousand Canadians.4. Canadian Bacon – Americans are the ones who call it Canadian Bacon. Canadians call it Back Bacon and in the country of Back… They call it American Bacon.5. The Tragically Hip – The Tragically Hip are Canada’s Rock Band. It used to be Anne Murray until the Hip came along. I’ve been a big fan since the 90’s and I would describe them as a cross between the Rolling Stones and R.E.M. There is really no joke to tell here… Gord Downie is the front man, incredible lyricist and a totally unique personality. He has been diagnosed with an incurable form of Brain Cancer and Gord Downie responded to the diagnosis by immediately scheduling (What could be depending on his health) a final concert tour across Canada. The final show was televised nationally. It’s thought #5 because it just might have been the most important concert tour in history in consideration of the circumstances.____________________Lineups:TWINSBrian Dozier® 2BRobbie Grossman(S) LFTrevor Plouffe® 1BMiguel Sano® DHMax Kepler(L) RFJorge Polanco(S) SSEduardo Escobar(S) 3BKurt Suzuki® CEddie Rosario(L) CFPat Dean PJAYSJose Bautista® RFJosh Donaldson® 3BEdwin Encarnacion® DHRussell Martin® CTroy Tulowitzki® SSMelvin Upton Jr.® CFDarwin Barney® 2BJustin Smoak(S) 1BEzequiel Carrera(L) LFFrancisco Liriano PClick here to view the article glunn, jimmer, spinowner and 8 others 11
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 I was hoping that you'd touch on this, but is there a Canadian exchange rate for losses? By simply crossing the border, is the Twins current loss streak more like 5.75 games? Might it be beneficial for them, perhaps even us, if they stayed north of the border? ashbury, nicksaviking, Riverbrian and 3 others 6

Teflon Verified Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Toronto was also the birthplace of former Twins players Jesse Crain and Rene Tosoni. Crain last pitched in the majors for the White Sox in 2013 but was back in Chi-Town this week (at Wrigley Field) to attend a Pearl Jam concert. Tosoni is currently playing for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball where his manager is Gary Gaetti. wsnydes, Hosken Bombo Disco, Riverbrian and 3 others 6

Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 OK guys, let's not just all start naming Canadian Bands. The Tragically Hip are the Beatles of Canada. There is no argument that can be made to the contrary. Craig Arko, twinsnorth49, Riverbrian and 2 others 5

Yeah, I'm not sure I could explain it in 2001, let alone today or 2025. He did have that run where he was seemingly all over the place. I was never a fan, but I did like him in Road Trip.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) Whether you like Drake's music or not, he's probably the most well known right now.....As for Rush, let's just say that their appeal is not universal, though I like their music.....there are days I love Arcade Fire, then I hear the same sound over and over, and think "this is a BIT much". Having just looked up Canadian rock band lists on line, I'm not sure who my favourite* would be. Of the soloists, I think I only have owned Alanis Morrissette music.....I hear a lot of recent Bieber stuff when my 19 year old has control over the car music, he knows how to do hooks. Neil Young is probably the best, most importanat, along with Joni Mitchell. I do like Dianna Krall.... * I believe that is the correct spelling for this topic.
