My first job was also as an umpire.  I've done it from little league (to include regionals which is right before LLWS) all the way to lower level college ball.

Heh ... my first job was signing envelopes in calligraphy for a wedding for $66. They said it was a small wedding ... it didn't feel small signing all those envelopes. If people are willing to dump $66 into signing envelopes for a small wedding, that must mean it's just a drop in the barrel in comparison to the other expenses. I think I'll stay clear of such business when it comes to personal matters.
 
I guess my latest job has been volunteering hours of time for my sister's employer. Of course, this turned out to be a bad thing, for when I ended up applying when there was a job opening, she saw no need to hire me since she could get the work for free. Though to be completely honest, I was occasionally paid in the form of something like potted flowers paid for by one of her employees, flowers which I a) had no need for and b) couldn't keep because my mom has allergies.

First job was coaching t-ball for the parks and rec dept. 

 

Parents were not overly fond of me because I was the only coach putting the best players at the top of the lineup and at the premium positions, but we didn't lose any games.

Man, the only good thing about this recent stretch is the day games- so the crappy stuff happens when I'm asleep, and I can trick myself into thinking I only dreamed my team has descended to this level of suck.

 

But today- (sorry, tonight)-  wow, the Braves suck worse than us, and we have a chance to catch Houston for the AL Toilet Bowl Title.   Go, Twinks, Go!

I'm going to guess that it's because it wasn't that long ago that Dozier was practically the only reason to watch this team.     That's neither a defense of keeping him at the top of the order or a knock against it.   I think that's just where they still are as an organization.     Even so,  it can't go on much longer like this.

The three primary differences were that my dad was infinitely better at being patient and supportive than the man in the cartoon,   I was somewhat worse at mowing than the dog in the cartoon,   and to the inevitable delight of anyone good at visualizing,  the lawn mower was,  in real life,  a rider.
