Fangraphs (and other national publications) on the Twins

This isn't about the Twins, but here is a quote from the Phillies some will find interesting. It is about veterans:

Those guys have added an element we didn’t have. As outsiders coming in, we’re reading them, but they’re reading us, as well. Talking to those guys, they’ve noticed that we need to build a culture of expecting to win rather than just going out and playing the game and hoping to win. When you get the point where you’re expecting to win every day, then you’re pointed in the right direction.

bader mader: who’s the best defensive prospect you ever seen? in each the OF, INF, and C

1:35
Eric A Longenhagen: C – Jake Rogers, INF- Freddy Galvis and Jose Iglesias, OF – Byron Buxton

Posted

1:36
Dan P: Hi Eric, can you tell me a little about Fernando Romero? What’s the ceiling and your thoughts on him?

1:37
Eric A Longenhagen: Bid-bodied sinker/slider guy. Hard, mid-90s with a short, upper-80s slider. Has already had a TJ and some scouts don’t like the delivery so there’s some relief risk.

Not Twins' specific.....but Fangraphs posted the Rays prospect list today.

De Leon would be the number 1 or 2 prospect on the MN list, ahead of every pitcher.....

That's to be expected. He's a very good prospect.

I still wouldn't have traded him for Dozier straight-up, though.

And I have no interest in rekindling the conversation about what the Dodgers offered, whether it was De Leon, De Leon + Dodgertown, or De Leon + an assortment of Tommy Lasorda's discarded topsiders.

I just post stuff that people might find interesting. Most times, i don't even want to discuss it here.

Oh, I know, just stating that while De Leon is good, I can't get too riled up about the lack of a move by the Twins on that front. I don't have enough information to really judge the situation.

This article is not Twins-related, but I found it a great read.

"The Unchanging Prices of Breakout Stars"

Talking about how pre-arbitration extensions have for the most part stayed the same rate ($25-30 MM guarantee). Cleveland has been using this tactic to their advantage, and one of the key reasons why they could be buyers this off-season for Encarnacion.

Don't continue to wait, Minnesota. Lock up Sano and Buxton now.... And continue to build around that core.

Let's hope he's wrong!

3:10 More likely, Dozier is traded during the year, or signs an extension during the year?

Dan Szymborski
3:10 Traded during the year and eventually for less than the Rays got

I will predict he's going to be wrong. If it's less than the Rays got, they won't trade him.

Right, Szymborski's comment doesn't make sense for that very reason.

teams end up taking less later all the time....it's one of the risks of waiting.

though, I think he's re-signed.....

I think it is likely that they have to settle for less than De Leon next offseason or at the deadline in 2018. But I have a hard time seeing a scenario where they would drastically reduce their asking price between now and July 31.

12:09 Optimistic about Mejia now that he's made the Twins' rotation?

Eno Sarris
12:10 There are things to like about Mejia for sure. His four-seam has good spin. He's developed a feel for his change, and it has good gap. Slider is an out pitch. Command is decent I think. I put him ahead of Garret because of that last point.

I don't consider either of them "breakout stars." I don't even consider Buxton established at the ML level.

What a waste just to save face.

12:42 What's your take on Max Kepler this year and going forward?

Eno Sarris
12:43 As a German I love him. But as a exit velo guy, he's lacking there. Want to see him hit the ball hard this year or he's a .275/15/15 guy with good OBP, better real life asset.

It's a long way from here to there. But they clearly value Dozier at a certain level. Not sure that's about saving face.

12:59 Who is more primed for a bounceback, Franco or Sano?

Eno Sarris
1:00 I don't think Sano needs to bounce back as much as stay healthy. A healthy year last year gets him to 30+ homers, and he has 40 homer upside. I don't think he's injury prone yet. Franco I think has .285/28 type upside, and he was so close last year. So I guess Sano?
1:01 In that he has more space between last year and his upside.

I'm going to make a request, let's not have long threads in here....or long debates. I know more than a few people just want the news in here.

A comment or two, great...but if we want to have a long discussion, let's make a thread...

An AL GM
1:29 Should I try to trade for Byungho Park today? Maybe even attempt to lowball the Twins? They apparently don't like him very much.

Eno Sarris
1:29 Everyone had a shot on him on waivers...

I really hope his answer is a joke....

9:29 Should I go try to see whales from the shore this afternoon, taste beer, hike near the city, or finish packing for my move this weekend? Re baseball: How long until the Twins get at least one playoff vote in staff predictions?

Jeff Sullivan
9:29 Go hike at Cape Lookout to search for whales at the end. Six years

10:11 What's your outlook on the Twins? They were certainly unlucky last season (BaseRuns had them at 71 wins), and there is some offensive potential.

Jeff Sullivan
10:11 There will be a lot of runs
A lot of runs are going to score in Twins games

Heheheheh, a fair and accurate analysis that isn't 100% down on the team.

Terry's Sarape
11:01 If Buxton can go .270 20/20 for 10 years with excellent defense, shouldn't he/we be excited about that?

Jeff Sullivan
11:01 Yes, of course

ernie
11:02 what do you think of the twins' decision to send park to the minors, despite his big spring?

Jeff Sullivan
11:02 I don't like it, but I've long been a Park supporter
