Per Aaron Gleeman on Twitter, your Minnesota Twins have signed OF Carlos Quentin to a minor-league deal. 32 years old, 2 time All-Star once upon a time.

Per Jon Heyman, The Twins signed outfielder Carlos Quentin to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. The two-time All Star (with the White Sox) hasn't played much the last couple of seasons due to injury.

Nothing to get excited about, though not a bad risk to bring him to spring training.

We Got Him!!!!!

If there is one thing the Twins lack it is DH/Below Average Defensive Corner OF types.

It is just a minor league deal but it would be more interesting if the Twins didn't have 20 DH/OF'ers.

That is funny.

This is a team that is incredibly confused.

LF/RF/DH - Park (4 year deal), Sano may win ROY, Rosario was a huge bright spot last year, Arcia is out of options, Vargas, Quentin, they are super high on Kepler, they moved Santana out there.

They just got him to represent the Twins in the new underground fight club this spring training.  Seriously, Quentin? Arcia and the younger hotheads really need Quentin around to get more fired up?

Another RH bat!

March 2016 - Quentin makes team, Arcia released

Mid April 2016 - Quentin goes on DL, retires

September 2016 - Arcia hits 25th HR for someone

The Twins are using the same philosophy in the OF as they are with the bullpen. Throw as many bodies out there as humanly possible and see what sticks.

I... just don't get it.

On the surface it's a depth move and a minor league deal. But the Twins have an overabundance of the kind of depth Quentin provides.

This is a big "meh" for me.

I put my money on Quentin getting released before the end of spring training.

Can't wait for Quentin to hit like .300 in spring training against a bunch of bums, make the roster over Arcia or Santana and then inevitably be released by May 1st.

This is a typical Twins move...overload...with less than bright players.  If it says anything to fans for the Twins it is we don't trust our youth coming up.  Which sends to me that management again does not trust itself and is looking for ways to cover there "fourth point".  This a waste of time for fans and players alike, another subpar performer who will take eyes from the youth we now want to squander?  Come on...TR has got to be better than this, typical Twins move but some time sooner or later you are going to have to trust all those rookies you keep telling fans are sooooo good.

They are using my fantasy football philosophy.  Grab positions you already have and hope the excess exceeds expectations and then trade him for a position of need.

Interesting. I guess a little competition can't hurt.

Every AB he gets in spring training is one a younger, better, player does not get. There is a real opportunity cost here.

Given his age, this makes zero sense, unless you think you are a WS contender this year, in which case doing nothing to fix the bullpen makes no sense

What, exactly, is their plan?

Do not disagree. A few guys (Santana, Arcia) without options remaining. Oh well. Will see how it all shakes out. There are no guarantees. You make a valid point, though.

Yep for sure. Instead of giving extended looks to Kepler, ABW, and others, the Twins will be giving 20-30 PA a piece to Quentin, Benson, and Mastrionni (I'm sure I butchered the spelling there)

I don't think there is a plan this offseason. Just to obtain as many warm bodies as possible is what I'm understanding.

Carlos Quentin...ah, the memories.  At one time I was working a part time job as a stringer for BIS, doing AAA games in Tucson.  Carlos Quentin was on (a really, really good) D'backs AAA team.  The thing that sticks out in my memory is the absolute regularity with which he would get hit by a pitch.

He stood right on top of the plate, and just would. not. make. any. effort. whatsoever. to. move. out. of. the. way. of. a. pitch.  If the pitcher threw 8 inches off the plate inside, it was a HBP, guaranteed.  The standing bet with the other stringers was always an O/U of .5 HBP per game.  I'd always take the over, and I might be misremembering, but I seem to recall I won more than I lost.

Anywhoo...Carlos Quentin?

Not to mention it takes them away from Buxton seeing Major League level pitching in games that don't matter.

So you're THAT guy in your fantasy league eh? :) Every league has one.. the guy that drafts RB the first 5 rounds thinking they have the market covered.

When my plan A doesn't pan out, yep.  I'm that guy!
