LaBombo Verified Member Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 The car purchase wasn't super wise, but I had gone through a succession of lemons, with the final one, literally exploding at my first interview after law school. The correct reaction of the interviewer: "You drove THAT to get to the interview?!? You're hired!!!"

A horrible day, but with a happy ending. LaBombo 1
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 Brock, did you ever change the crappy interface on your Mazda entertainment system?I haven’t gotten around to the CarPlay update yet but plan to do it at some point.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 I haven’t gotten around to the CarPlay update yet but plan to do it at some point. It's so pricey....I know that at one point my son found a download you could install to allow you to use the touchscreen when the car was moving.......also, the radio controls are the worst. Is there any other system where you can't push a button for a particular radio station, with a list of 5 or more on the screen or buttons?

Is there any other system where you can't push a button for a particular radio station, with a list of 5 or more on the screen or buttons? I don't dislike the lack of a touchscreen; if anything, I prefer it. Mazda put the display on the dash to increase visibility while driving and reduce eye focus time. As a result, the display is awkwardly placed for touchscreen use. I find the control knob to be quite good and use the favorites button to jump to the desired radio station. Really, most of my problems with the system boil down to its lack of Carplay and Android Auto. Not in love with Mazda charging so much to retrofit the system but that's because they cheaped out on USB ports. Carplay requires a higher voltage port than Mazda puts in most of their vehicles. Overall, considering how upscale Mazda's interiors are to the competition, it's a sacrifice I understand, even if I don't care for it. To keep a price point, they needed to skimp somewhere. gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2019 Author Posted April 9, 2019 What do you tech folks know of Slack?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 What do you tech folks know of Slack? stock wise? No idea. Use wise? Easy to use as a collaboration tool. I like it......but you were probably asking about the stock.....
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 What do you tech folks know of Slack?Fantastic software, know nothing of their ability to monetize on scale but I’m skeptical of it being a profit beast. Their scope is pretty niche the same way I’d be skeptical of Skype being an independently traded company. gunnarthor 1

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 What do you tech folks know of Slack? It's used at tons of companies. Our company uses it as an easy way to chat, send docs, and collaborate with different teams. I have no idea how they price their services and other revenue opportunities they can pursue.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 I really wanted to buy puts on Lyft.....should have.....Maybe this is a better time than their IPO offering. They haven't matched their starting point of $78 a share since.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2019 Author Posted April 11, 2019 Who's jumping on for the ride? I'm hopping on right away.I decided I'd pass on Uber and Lyft. Partly b/c I'm stashing money for our IRA contributions* but I'm just a bit stock heavy and I probably should hoard cash for a while. I'll probably regret that. *I realize I could buy uber for my IRA. Vanimal46 1

I'd say less than 2% is actual cash. Though if I ever end up buying a house I'll have to change the strategy and sell stock to get cash for a down payment.

Hell, I'm 55 and I'm still all in on stocks and retirement savings.....we have little cash. Yes, we sold stock to buy our house, but we could not have done that if we had not been all in on stocks the last decade. gunnarthor and Vanimal46 2

Well, right now we're probably 95% stock/index funds and I really want to raise the cash part. We'll move around some of that cash so we both can add 6k to our IRA but then we'll have even less cash in our investment account ... so, I don't think we'll do even a small buy until fall.

I'll be curious to see how they respond. Disney is starting at a lower price point already... $6.99 a month I believe. gunnarthor 1
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 What are they expecting to open at? Probably something similar to Lyft, if not more.

joethastud Provisional Member Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 I'm late to the party, but I'm jumping in on Disney tomorrow morning prior to Wednesday's earnings report. 2019 is going to be all Disney. Their movie lineup might have 4, 1 billion dollar makers. With that said, I really like Sonos products. I think their Ikea collaboration is going to be a big hit for the company. I'm going to make a smaller trade on them too. Outside of a quick hit with Nintendo a couple years ago, my portfolio is invested in biotech/pharma - UNH being my strongest holding. I'm going to try to diversify a bit here now.
