Drew Storen for Ben Revere

Well it didn't take as much as I thought it would to get Storen.  Revere is a fine player but not exactly a difference maker.

Makes me wonder if the Twins even attempted to talk to the Nats about Storen.  What would they have asked for from the Twins as comparable trade?  As much as I want to believe the Twins will do SOMETHING to bolster their bullpen I am now in the camp that believes they are done improving this team with big league acquisitions.  This also tells me the Twins have a completely different mindset than the  90% of people on this site in regards to what will help improve the team which is bullpen.   I hope us 90% are wrong and TR and the Twins are right.

TR has won one playoff series in 17 years, sadly I think that number will be 1 in 18 years after this season.

Nice to see a team like the Blue Jays (who made it far) continue to "go for it"

Brilliant trade on their part, Twins could have easily matched/beat it, but of course did not.

Very good trade.  The fact the Twins could have matched or beat it without hurting the current or future of the team tells me the Twins are content to be just "competitive".  Everyone around them is improving their teams and the Twins continue to sit and hope everything turns out OK.  Outside of current players improving and Park, they really have done nothing to be better than a .500 club.

Can you throw out a suggestion or two? The Twins have no players in terms of position, age, service time and skill set that compares to Ben Revere.

There is no way to know what the Twins would have had to give up, but seeing as the Blue Jays had to give up a controllable vet and the Nationals aren't rebuilding, the Twins almost certainly would have had to trade a player that could contribute for them right now, the exact kind of player the Twins wouldn't want to trade. This doesn't look like a situation where the team could have thrown a handful of C-B prospects at the problem to fix it.

Milone would be an excellent comparable. In fact, Milone would likely be able to bring back a prospect or two along with Storen since he is more valuable then an overpaid guy like Revere who is basically a 4th OF.

Additionally, trading Milone opens up a rotation spot for a guy like May/Duffey/Berrios as well.

Milone has a better arm than Revere, but his outfield range is terrible and let's not even start talking about the hit tool.

What on earth kind of a comparison is that???  Excellent comparable???  Come on, you aren't even trying.

I would give Milone away to open up a spot for May, Duffey or Berrios. I really don't think he has much value. Even if he did, you can't force the Nationals to take a #5 starter if they really want a top of the lineup outfielder.

Milone is a bad comparable as he is not an MLB-ready lead off OF who can play CF.

This trade is between 2 contending teams that trading from surplus for MLB-ready players.

Hicks could have been a pretty decent comparable to Revere (but the Twins did not have him).  Maybe Rosario, but he is not suited for a lead off spot.

I just do not see any comparables.  Could the Twins better the deal by throwing in someone like Kepler?  Sure, but I am not sure that a prospect is what the Nats would be looking for.

Would anybody trade one year of Drew Storen for Trevor May? I think the Twins won that trade.

Depends.  If you compete for a post-season you want Storen, rather than AA May who is 2-3 years away (which is what the Twins got for Revere then, plus Worley).

Different circumstances for those teams when they traded the same player, so cannot really compare returns.  Toronto can do nothing with a guy who is 2-3 years away right now, while they close a big hole in their pen with Storen.

Revere is not a top of the lineup OF. He has put up less than 1.0 WAR in 2 of his last 3 years, he is a 4th OF.

I would bet when the Nats use Revere, he'll be batting at the top of the lineup.

Milone surely would not.

Whaddya mean?  It didn't take Milone as long as Ben to hit his first dinger!

Well, they do have the current worst manager in baseball now in Dusty Baker, so anything is possible.

While i would love the Twins to make a move like this, the comp is probably trading Hicks for him. If they don't do something, it will be sign 999 that TR should retire.

Well he's played six years with three teams and has 1301 PA batting 1st or 2nd compared to 357 batting anywhere else in the order, so it's basically all of his managers. I think it's pretty clear where teams think his skill set fits best at this point.

Well, Dusty Baker is the lineup equivalent of Gardenhire's play second, bat second.

Baker really likes his center fielders to lead off. Darren Lewis, Darryl Hamilton, Marvin Benard, Calvin Murray, Shawon Dunston (playing center AND leading off!!!), Corey Patterson, Shin-Soo Choo. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it doesn't, but it always happens. If Revere plays center he will lead off!
