Guy looks terrible lately, what the hell has happened? 3-0 pitch and you serve up a meatball to Cruz? This is his 4th poor outing of his last 6 by my count.

What is the issue?

His control seems to be out of whack.  I mean 3-0 count, just walk him.  Instead he leaves a belt high fastball down the middle.  That couldn't have been where he was trying to throw that pitch.

lately?  First half he had a .240 BABIP.  He is regressing to average and his ERA is trending towards his 3.55 FIP and 3.61 xFIP.

Normal.  He is 32.5 years old too, and is 2 mph off his peak slider velocity.

Too bad the Twins did not sell high, hope they do it during the off-season, or consider him for what he should be: a 7th and 8th inning guy in a winning team.

He did warm last night but didn't pitch. Maybe he as a little gassed? As for intentionally walking the winning run, the M's did that last night and it didn't go so well.

Cruz destroys LHP and it's a 3-0 count, it's not exactly an intentional walk at that point.

What was his last injury, an oblique strain? Maybe that's acting up again. That would explain his inability to finish his motion properly, which would result in a lack of control.

I can't shake the belief he's tipping his pitches.  Nobody is ever surprised by a pitch anymore.  Even swings and misses are well timed.

As for today, no matter what, you simply can't throw that pitch to Cruz.  Once it gets to 2-0, you put him on and take your chances.  2 outs in a tie game?  There's zero chance he doesn't have a green light.

He's just not locating well right now.

His very first pitch today was not where he surely wanted it, and I said Uh Oh.

I didn't see the game but I was listening on the radio. When the count hit 3-0 to Cruz I was thinking, throw a slider and he will take it, even if it's in the middle of the zone. So I think it was pitch selection more than anything.

Guys, Perkins is not that good.  He needs to hit his spots and do it from the first pitch.

He had a great first half, way better than his career norms.  He's falling back to earth.

That's it.  He ain't going to win us a World Series.  He should have walked Cruz in the 9th.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda.  But, it's not a pretty picture for him or the team.

Throwing a strike to Cruz in that spot is just foolish. And using Duensing over O'Rourke was similarly foolish. They should not have lost this game.

Either way it's really tough to win a game when you score 1 run.

No doubt. But they had an opportunity to do it. I almost wish Pelfrey had been Pelfrey and put us out of our misery early. He bought himself at least 3 more starts today.
