2016 Election Thread

It's not surprising, but it does confirm the worst of anyone's cynicism.  The DNC stacked the deck (Hillary didn't need it) with some really nasty tactics and rhetoric.

Also, Russia seems to be really good at hacking.  Seems to me the Clinton campaign should tread carefully about how much they say Russia is behind getting after emails to damage her.  Just saying.

And the Bernie supporters loudly chastising the party and anyone that supports Clinton should be a very real red flag for the Dems about this election.  Remember all that support you were counting on to switch over?  Um, yeah....about that.....

Trump got his convention bump. Now leading Clinton. Yikes. The dnc better get their **** together this week. Clinton is such a flawed candidate. I wish Warren would have run. I'm still throwing my support to Johnson hoping to see him in the debates. Clinton's best shot is to make that happen. I don't know how well he'll do in the debates, but it won't help trump to have competition running with conservatism.

I saw on RCP that when Johnson is included in polls the net effect is -1% for Clinton. Which is to say, maybe he has no effect on either of them.

I'd be interested to see where Johnson steals his support after these conventions.  I think that -1% might be about right, siphoning about equally from both sides.

Most people still don't even know who Johnson is, if he gets in the debates he most certainly will "hurt" Trump quite a bit more. You will get the more moderate republicans who will feel "well, I can't vote trump, but I don't want to vote Hillary, so Johnson is a good middle ground!"

He will take some "Hillary" voters as well, especially some hold outs from the bernie or bust bros, but I would guess it would be around 70-75% Trump votes and 25-30% hillary votes.

Warren and Michelle absolutely crushed it tonight so far, it's amazing how different in tone (more legit) this looks than the GOP convention.

I agree.  There are those who cannot stand Trump and tolerate Hillary that would vote for Johnson, and then, there are those who cannot stand Hillary and tolerate Trump that would vote for Johnson.

Right, that's my vibe.  And they'd find enough in the libertarian platform to appeal to them.  Plus, Johnson just isn't an offensive guy.  He comes off as pretty affable, though not particularly presidential.

I think Johnson's voters will largely be from the Sanders camp and the rational Republicans camp.

But, I'd like to see how that plays out.

I think you underestimate how many of the Bernie camp will come to Hillarys side. The ones that won't are likely people who never have voted before (or wouldn't vote before) anyways.

Bernie and Warren are doing a good job bringing people over for the greater good.

Yeah, Johnson seems fine, but yeah, he doesn't come off as presidential, though compared to trump he looks like Honest Abe Lincoln.

Bernie's quite the advocate.  Interesting path to the endorsement of Clinton and right back to the progressive platform.  He's not wrong though.  (Ah, I think what if. I just really like the guy. He should have been on the national scene years ago.)

We'll see if it works.  I might be underestimating it, you might be overestimating it.  We're going to find out, :)

I'd like to THINK that the Bernie supporters are smart enough to realize that Trump in the white house is asking for a disaster.

I know many who don't care. If that happens they are ready to blame everyone else who didn't support Bernie in the primaries ... as if it will be one big 'I told you so.' And they don't believe in the correlation of not supporting Hillary as helping Trump. For them it's no longer about the issues because they don't support what Trump does, but as I said, they don't care and it won't be their fault. They only want one thing and if they don't get it, they don't care.

Honestly, people are still sore over the loss, this DNC leak doesn't help much either. However I think most of those are just a VERY loud vocal minority, a lot of them will probably vote Hillary (out of fear of trump) but will go around and tell everyone they voted Jill Stein. I mean some of his followers are delusional now, the sub reddit group is crazy as all hell, but then I realized that is only a few hundred "posters" and don't represent the majority of his followers by far.

Oh, I know it's a minority of his supporters, but I still know those who won't vote for Hillary and will take a stance of moral and/or intellectual superiority. Most won't be hurt by a Trump presidency so they don't care. And they likely wouldn't have voted for whomever the Dem was anyway. But I know many more Bernie supporters who know what's at stake and they have already said they will vote for Hillary.

And, for the record, I think the 'moral/intellectual superiority stance' is total hypocrisy.

I'd recommend you stop interacting with idiots and cut them out of your life :)

I think EVERYONE would be hurt by a Trump Presidency personally, the worst case is we get in some awful war and he launches a nuke, but the much more likely scenario is at the very least civil liberties get set back and the economy does a bit of a nose dive. (Plenty of people are nervous to invest already due to Trump's chances)

Did anyone watch all the speeches lay night? Wow. That is all i can say, is wow. Compare them to the rnc and it is an unbelievable contrast. The senator from Illinois Cory Booker really killed it. It is very clear where these two parties sit.

I wish Corey Booker was my Senator. He's from NJ. Hoping that Mark Kirk gets the boot from Tammy Duckworth. She's awesome!

That's right. Maybe he grew up in Illinois or something. No way Kirk holds on with trump on the ticket imo. He has tried to distance himself as much as he can, but i don't think it's going to matter.

I watched a decent amount of it. Booker was very good, same with Warren and Bernie. Michelle knocked it out of the park! Barrack and Michelle have to be the best speech giving husband and wife tandem of all time. They are incredible.

They really bunched together a lot of the speakers that make you want to tune in on Monday, I hope that works for the best - I have my doubts... spread the wealth around.

Wednesday, should be damn good with Biden, Kaine, and Barrack.

I am concerned about Bill Clinton tonight, he really has seemed to put his foot in his mouth during his wife's campaign. Hopefully he doesn't **** it up, because that is the last thing she needs right now with all of the other black clouds floating over this thing.

I have not been the biggest Fan of HRC, but it is apparent to me now that everything must be done to extinguish the Donald Trump fire. I don't even have the imagination to think what his presidency would look like.

Oh yeah, and a special **** You goes out to Julian Assange!

Did anyone catch Barreiro at about 5:30 today? He pretty much summed up this election. It was awesome.

There is some of this that is so important for the left to hear.  Sometimes perception becomes truth, no matter how much the facts disagree with it.  (And we're not in a competition of facts here, like it or not)

Trump is preying on perceptions, but he's also preying on some common tendencies in the right and left.  The right wants to be fed lowest common denominator, red meat nonsense and the left loves to be in total denial of reality when it doesn't fit their cushy narrative.  Here slides in Trump to give the right what it wants and to call out the left for what a lot of us see in it.

I'm more worried by the day that Trump is going to win this.  The emailer to Barreiro is right.  Hillary needs to stop fighting evil with sunny denials of reality and start acknowledging concerns and offering a different path.  I tend to think she will, but how long will it take for that message to shine out?

Trump just asked Russia to hack Hillary......and people are going to vote for this guy.

Wow. Just. Wow.

Oh, I think he was just making a joke.  Fairly good one at that, frankly.

If Hilary made that joke, Foxnews would explode.......and why do you think it was a joke? He doesn't care about anything other than himself and his family.....
