And the pendulum swings

Until the last 2 games, there were a lot of posts on TD talking about how the front office had totally screwed up and how the Twins are going to have a terrible record this season.  Since today's win, there has been a lot less of that.

It seems to me that the certainty of people's negative opinions has been eroded by the last two games.  Maybe the front office did an OK job and maybe the Twins might even look like contenders for some part of the year?  Maybe some of the players just got off to a slow start, but something is now clicking?

I am not saying that I think that the Twins will have a good record at the end of the season, but I will say that it seems to me that the Twins may catch fire and stay on fire and it's even possible that Molitor's ways take time to yield fruit, but it might be worth the wait.

I understand all of the arguments that the front office bungled this season, but I see some glimmer of hope based on the past two games.  I also see a more positive potential in some players than I would have expected from reading posts on TD.  For example, maybe Milone is not a terrible pitcher.  Maybe his stuff is not great, but he is good at fooling hitters?  Maybe Torii is a poor fielder, but he sometimes gets 3 hits in one game to help defeat the defending AL champs?

I am not trying to sell kool-aid here.  I won't be surprised if the Twins lose 100 games.  On the other hand, at least until the next terrible game, I am going to enjoy the thought that the Twins may have a decent season.

Early season baseball. Sometimes the team ends the year not as good as they played at the begining. Sometimes a team gets better throuh the year. Had the team have the record of KC a few days ago people would have said smoke and mirrors.  As with manythings, some things need a little time to settle out.

I've got expectations of zero for this year and it's a lot easier that way.  Not trying at all to predict record, place in the division, etc, or get worked up about who should or shouldn't be on the team.  I think, at least for this year, my goal is to hope for good baseball and enjoy it when it happens.  I will also try not to slam doors when terrible baseball happens.

And if I can keep that going for at least 3 days it will be a good thing.

A little too early for any of it... at the very least they looked competent the last couple of games, more than we can say for the first 6...

That was my take away too. They finally looked like pro ballplayers and were watchable playing.

But weve got a long way to go to judge things, even if some complaints are already pretty apparent. (Looking at you CF)

Glunn, since I have your attention, let me ask you a couple questions. Molly and I were contemporaries at the "U", which is a fancy way of saying we went to school there at the same time. I got into the games by showing my student I.D., but I'm guessing his mother, who had that beehive thing going on, had to pay the full 75 cents.

My wife bought me a brand new Dell laptop for my birthday, and I'm showing 18 active posts, 120 profile views, but only 3 warning points. Do you think I should sent it back?

Thanking you in advance for your cooperation,

Don't want to speak for Glunn, but that's only one question.

And it's off topic.

'Small Sample Size Syndrome' is affecting everybody these days, it seems!

Witht that being said, the old adage goes that with good pitching and defense you give yourself a chance to be in, and win, a lot of games.

Remind me again how those two facets are looking for the Twins?

There was some overreaction going on the first week. Understandable, as they often didnt look prepared and the roster isn't strong.

That said, they weren't ever going to be as bad as winning-one-game-every-two-series bad.

However, IMO they are still bad. 90 loss bad, again. Which, Again IMO, is fair reason to question the front office.

In large part, the Twins recent successes is because they are no longer facing staff aces one after the other.  I also do not discount the idea that Twins hitters are starting to get their timing down.

So relax.  Breathe the fresh air.  There's still 153 games to go.

I've tried very hard not to get too wrapped up in any of it.

I've laughed (and groaned) when they were test-driving the clown car.  I've cheered (and held my breath) when they were winning.

I didn't have high expectations of this season.  I would like to see some "graduations" from the minors to the majors but am well-aware that April is stll a little early for that (despite Kris Bryant's promotion today).

I'm just glad it's spring ... and we have baseball.

Or even the city air. :)

I quit having any expectations for sports teams with the 1998 Vikings. It's been pretty easy to just enjoy the games for their own sake after that, like any other form of entertainment.

Oh, and beware of pendulums.

My opinion of this FO and the likely record of the team have not changed at all.......But I saw no reason to post those thoughts in the game threads or anywhere else that wasn't about that. I continue to hope to be proven wrong.

I think part of the problem, at least it was for me, was those first 7 games made competency look unattainable.  It was some comically awful baseball.

These last two games just sober that up a bit and go to show it wasn't as unattainable as it looked, even though the fundamental issues remain.  They were just under a ridiculous spotlight to start the year.
