Realistic trade return ideas

Uribe is 36 yrs old, Braves want younger and controllable for 2017, Plouffe would fit that. Again, Twins wont be trading away anyone that is helping them to where they are if they are in the hunt at deadline, so this would be a better offseason trade idea.

No, there would be no interest in Plouffe. The Braves have a wealth of guys who can field tremendously at the position and hit enough. They would not give anything of real value for Plouffe. I cover the team and had an interview recently with Coppy, and I can tell you that they're not looking at all for a 3B now or coming soon.

No way the TWINS consider giving up that much. That is a fair offer, but to much for the Twins to give up in a trade.

Except that it is the Brewers who would hang up in that deal.

Would Jonathon Papelbon be worth a look as an 8th inning guy?  He's owed half of $13mill for this season and his $13mil 2016 option vests if he finishes 19 more games this year.  Clearly, he wouldn't accomplish that with Perkins getting the saves, but would probably accept a trade if the option was guaranteed.

Seems like the Twins could get him for next to nothing if we eat the salary, but the Phil's would require a hefty return if we made them pay the bulk.  Is either scenario desirable?  I'd love to see a boost to the pen going down the stretch.  $18-20mil for a year and a half is huge, but adding his arm for a minimal return could be sweet.

This was raised in another thread, I would LOVE to get Papelbon, and frankly, I'm not sure he wouldn't mind his option not getting picked up/guaranteed. I'd say he is a pretty good bet to get a 3 year 28-36 million dollar deal on the open market if he became a FA anyways.

The Twins can certainly "afford" the payroll portion, not sure about the price of assets it would take to trade for him, but if the price was reasonable I think him alone makes the Twins that much more of a world series contender. Papelbon in the  8th and Perkins in the 9th would be pretty amazing.

I wonder why everybody wants to trade Escobar. Is Santana a fixture now? I would keep Escobar at SS. He is the best in the system. I like his glove. He is still young and inexpensive.

I dont follow the Braves as closely as you do, but I am a Braves fan also..................but other than a couple 20 yr olds, who are at least a couple yrs away, who do they have to play the position, especially if they trade Chris Johnson, who i have read they want to trade........I suppose they could move Jace Peterson there temporarily and put Peraza at 2nd??!! And I am not doubting you, i am just wondering. :)

Well , he is expendable, with Santana and with  Polanco on the horizon, all 3 are or seem that they will be similar in production, so I think people dont care which one goes, but he is the choice for a couple of reasons,  close to Arb , a little older. I personally have no feeling one way or the other if we keep him, I do like him, as long as we keep him in the infield.

Meyer, May, O'Rourke, and Rogers might be a pretty viable foursome to put in front of Perkins in the playoffs for 7th-8th situations. And with the usage for all four this year, I think they will all have some left in their arms, unlike Boyer and company.

For short term, Daniel Castro has shown good instincts when moved over from short, and he'd be the defense-focused player they'd want. Uribe is a free agent after this year, but the Braves have already reached out to him with a pretty nice contract offer that'd keep him on board for 2016 with team options for a year or two after that to allow him to finish his contract mentoring the next Braves 3B.

Papelbon will not be traded for next to nothing. $19 mil for 1.5 years of a closer performing at his level is not an onerous burden, and as messy as they are, the Phillies do not seem desperate for that level of immediate salary relief.

Ryan Howard, on the other hand...

I will second that Papelbon is not a salary dump.  His career ERA is 2.33.  In 11 seasons he has had an ERA above 3.00 once.  If David Robertson is worth 4-46 on the open market with a career 2.78 ERA....if anything Papelbon's contract (and length) is a bonus for any team trading for him.

The closer title makes little sense and it would be a huge luxury to mix and match Perkins and Papelbon in the 8th and 9th inning depending on the matchups.  It would make two elite relievers even more elite.  This move and make Rodgers your 6-7th inning lefty specialist and I think you have gone a long way in fixing the biggest weakness we have.

How much is too much?  I would protect our elite prospects, Sano, Berrios, Jay, and Buxton obviously. But I would give up Kohl, Walker, or Kepler and a piece. For the record I don't see the Twins doing this.

I think "might" is selling this fantasy short.

Papelbon has no trade protection. He has insisted that he must go to a contender that will use him as a closer. He needs to finish games so his option will vest. Closer status will give him better value following 2016.

Guessing you do that deal, tell him he will close sometimes and pitch in the 8th based on situations....but if you pick up the option before the trade he maybe okay with it.

Exactly. So it's my belief that Papelbon will be a Chicago Cub by July 31st.

A hyphen between the third and fourth word would make your statement much clearer. Grammar police out.
