ashbury Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 ABJ! You decided to show up to the thread! Had a vet appointment for a cat, then had to eat lunch. Tough out here in the Pacific time zone.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Wow - what a route to that catch.I've never seen major league outfielders play that shallow on a hitter before. It's almost like they thought there was still just one out
WLFINN Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Heck of a catch by Venable.or Amarista your pick
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 The clever strategy behind giving up the leadoff HR in the 10th is that you're only behind by one run after that. Much better than diddling around and then giving up the grand slam.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 A loss today could stall our march to the playoffs.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Dick got it wrong, but Roy right, and that quick we lose the lead.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 It's practically a cliche by now, but how often do you see a guy make a stellar play in the field, and then come up to bat fourth the very next inning? Uncanny. / edit - Venable making the catch is my story and I'm sticking with it.
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I keep thinking that if they put together that 10-game winning streak, Mauer comes back and turns back into Mauer, Nolasco comes back the way he was supposed to be, and a couple of young guys come up and contribute, and maybe they stay hot after that streak and finish out 25-15 in the other games that aren't part of the streak. That leaves them at 86 wins, 87 if they pick up Perkins after this blown save, and probably steals the last wildcard spot. Then they stay hot in the playoffs, have home-field in the Series, and it's 1987 all over again. This post will probably get me flagged for a drug test at work, but I don't really think this too often. I just figure if you're going to dream, dream big. Don't waste it on "maybe we can get to .500."I hope a loss today does not put this in jeopardy. It will be a bummer if we end the season at 85 wins and just miss the wild card spot.
Thegrin Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Now we'll see if these Twins have grit. Its their last chance to win till they leave Oakland.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 A loss today could stall our march to the playoffs. We waved the white flag when we traded our heart and soul, Fuld.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 None of this would have happened if KC wasn't on a pitch limit, burning out the bullpen......
ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Perkins threw that one away. I wonder if pitching to Fryer had anything to do with it? I really want Parmalee to win this game for the Twins. Oh well, A shot of Gardy laughing at something. That is why I like Gardy. He enjoys the game and he enjoys his players. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! what a catch !! Too much Gardy-hating for me (on the Twins website). Thanks for the positive comment.
mikeee Provisional Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 The closer is someone the Twins have seen many times before.
ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Did Smalley say, "Rally cats are out?"
Thegrin Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 What happens in future games if the Hammer hits a homer ?
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I keep thinking that if they put together that 10-game winning streak, Mauer comes back and turns back into Mauer, Nolasco comes back the way he was supposed to be, and a couple of young guys come up and contribute, and maybe they stay hot after that streak and finish out 25-15 in the other games that aren't part of the streak. So all we need for a sniff at the playoffs is a 35-15 finish? Damn, now I'm mad they went into seller mode at the deadline.
mikeee Provisional Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 was hoping they'd pinch hit the buck 74 guy too.... lol
Thegrin Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Its gotta be a hit now. Can Dozier do it ?

Damn, now I'm mad they went into seller mode at the deadline. That wasn't just sniffing the playoffs. It was going to propel us to the World Series. I'm off to voluntarily pee in the cup now.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Wait, Willingham bunted? You are all trolling me, right?
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Wait, Willingham bunted? You are all trolling me, right?I know - I am at work and don't have a box score up for some reason, so am going by the game thread. I can't tell what is real and what is commentator fantasy or fiction. I already incorrectly assumed the game was over at one point.
