curt1965 Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I'd love it if Gardy had the balls to send Nolasco to the bullpen for awhile. Send a message to the entire team.
Hawkeye12 Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 The Nolasco deal is currently making the Pelfrey re-signing look like a steal. If you are going to get a near 6.00 ERA, don't overpay for it.
snepp Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Small sample Nolasco entertainment. 1.000 OPS allowed to batters leading off an inning. 1.067 OPS allowed in high leverage situations. .545 OPS allowed in the 4th inning! .542 OPS allowed to #6 hitters! Obviously he needs to pitch more 4th innings, against more #6 hitters in the lineup.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Does Nolasco have options? If not, bullpen. If so, send him down. No more scholarships.....
James Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Guh, I chose the wrong time to turn this game on.

I honestly hope there's some undiagnosed injury or something...
howeda7 Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 And the Yankees just tagged up from 1st to 2nd on Sam 'Pop-Gun' Fuld. Ugh. Who must we sacrifice for a real CF'er?
ashbury Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I guess it is back to huffing ether for me. This game may prove to be responsible for a spate of self-asphyxiation reports, and not even of the erotic variety.
glunn Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 The Twins have accumulated some contracts that seem likely to be burdens for a while -- Nolasco, Pelfrey, and Mauer come to mind. I guess that happens with a lot of teams, but it also seems that some teams (like the A's) are able to minimize this.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 There's the balk Gardenhire wanted yesterday ... on the wrong pitcher unfortunately.

Look at these as a series of one-year contracts.
glunn Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 If you could be the owner of the Twins for one day, and could fire the GM, would you do it? If so, who would you try to hire as the new GM?

Circus Boy Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 http://i.huffpost.com/gen/106337/thumbs/s-DAVID-CARRADINE-large.jpg Ah, Grasshopper, kung fu this!
curt1965 Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 If you look at the free agent pitchers the Twins have signed the last couple of years-Pelfrey, Correia, Hughes, and Nolasco-these guys were not kept by their original teams for a reason! You don't see a Hernandez or a Sale or a Kershaw becoming free agents. Ideally, your staff is best if developed by your farm teams and in trades. The 4 pitchers above didn't come to Minnesota because they had a chance to win-they came because the Twins either offered the most money, or were the only team willing to sign them.

If so, who would you try to hire as the new GM? After the last 3 1/2 years I think the Twins are the only team that wouldn't fire somebody at this point. It will be very hard to sell tickets for this team after the all star game.
