Brian is on the road, and his thoughts are with him. So, no masterful '5 Things to Think About' from RB today. While a loss for us, maybe we all can bridge the gap. If you have 'something to think about' for today's game, feel free to share! Let's get this game thread rolling!

Oh, and go Twins! Play ball! :)

Lineups, batting averages and ERAs have been fed into the Bat Computer, and the card it spit out sez we're gonna need at least five runs -- and an appearance by the Rally Rhino (or is it the Comeback Bunny?) -- to win today.

Does R-Brian think he is Bert and can take off as many games as he feels like? I think this needs to go into his performance review and definitely effect any raise he would get.

I like the Rally Rhino better. But that's me personally. And I think we need it every game.

When we met the Yankees back in ... May/June ... the game Nolasco pitched against them he won. I'm hoping for a repeat. But yes, all rhinos and bunnies will need to be on hand anyway and always!

Heard he's either been DFA'd or is sidelined with bilateral brain weakness. Just a rumor.

Thoughts, but in a different style than Brian:

  1. Whenever one of your pitchers has a good inning, tell him "lucky inning". That way, he develops a good, lucky, feeling.
  2. To me, baseball is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography, and the dancers hit a baseball.
  3. It's easy to sit there and say you'd like to have more pitching. And I guess that's what I like about it. It's easy. Just sitting there, rocking back and forth, wanting that pitching.
  4. I think Gardy's new thing should be to try to be a real happy guy. He'll just walk around, being real happy, at least until some jerk says Strike Three to one of his players.
  5. I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at batting practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to do take out slides into people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought, something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Especially when Morales is going from 1st to home.

Today is one of those days when I wonder why anyone likes summer.

What's it doing where you are? It's a good tell for what I'm in for in a day or two.

Yeah, it looks like it will reach mid-80s here. We'll have to shut the windows for a few hours until it cools back down.

mid-80s, sunny or partly cloudy, light breeze ... that's perfect, imo. I'd be very happy if most days were like that. :)

First pitch strike. Good omen for Nolasco's command, and for results?

Shhhhhh ... that was close to a jinx statement.

So far its 92 with about 50% humidity but I suspect it will go higher.

Feels like cr*p after it was so nice the last 4 or 5 days (low 80's, low humidity). Wasn't ready for this again.

I know. But we've got to celebrate the little victories when they happen.

That, plus I look forward to a day when the Twins pitching is uniformly good enough that it's not a jinx to recognize it as such. Fans of a good team would laugh at me for worrying about such a paltry jinx.

OTOH, just looked at the forecast and it looks like it is heading back down to the mid-80's for the rest of the week. Nice for the 1st part of July.

I look forward to the day when Nolasco doesn't allow a baserunner in the 1st inning.

I'd rather have 90s in the summer than 60s.

Fuld with a nice leaping catch. Followed immediately by a Revere-like three-bouncer to the cutoff man.

If we had less pitching, would that mean we were getting outs faster?

So right now, with 2 on and none out in the first, (scratch that, 1 out. Nice catch, Mr. Fuld) we are getting more pitching...

After it was so nice the last few days, I guess it was just a kick in the b*tt to remind me that this is Iowa.

But, in the words of every farmer I know, it is great for the corn -- you can almost hear it grow. :)

I think the Twins need to institute a $1000 fine to a pitcher who walks the first batter of an inning!
