Having grown up watching games at the old Met, I can guarantee that this kind of rain would have postponed a game 100% of the time on the old fields. That said, I wonder how much rain the field can withstand and still be playable.

Sand-based fields can take unbelievable amounts of rainfall, even in short periods of time, and still be playable. The only way games should be postponed on modern day professional fields are times when it's actually raining non stop. Fields of the old days were built like your home yard with native soils, hence why they could only take so much rain before becoming soft and mushy.

There's quite a bit of gravel/other drainage material underneath most professional ball diamonds. It can hold a lot of water.
