OPS's in his four full or partially full seasons with the Twins: .817 (age 22), .810 (age 24), .799 (age 25) and .839 (age 26).

 

He was actually pretty good​ when he was here.

He couldn't play defense and heretical metrics were still subject to Twins front office inquisition back then. Just not a good fit.

 

But they broke The Curse and as was already mentioned, we freed up space for Porkchop Lecroy, so it all worked out.

Ortiz' second half of 2002 was every bit what he's done since he left. He was pretty good in 1998 as a rookie when he broke his wrist and then didn't get a chance in 1999 with Mienkiewicz winning the spot. Ortiz went 0 for 20 when he was called up in September that year. Then he was back full time in 2000 as the DH.
