Wow, how great is that. My wife and I have been globetrotting for the last 3 years. We haven't done the middle east yet. I'm envious.

Put it on the list for sure. The history is overwhelming at times. Israel is a little scary with everyone on edge, but I felt safer in Egypt than I do in LA, and there are NO tourists there now. What an experience to be at the pyramids for a couple hours by myself!

I seem to remember last year early on he hit like. 400 and then in maybe the second or third week went into a prolonged slump that brought him down to .290 or so. (Feel free to correct me if my memory is faulty.) So I think we've seen some inconsistencies from him early on in the season before.

Globetrotting as in living abroad? My wife and I plan on doing that within a year or so. Any favorites? Feel free to PM if you don't want to derail the thread any further.

Game threads are built for derailment. No, we live in St Paul, but we have been following our eldest daughter's volleyball career. She's on the National team, but plays pro in the off-season. We've been headquartered in Tokyo, Rome, and Baku Azerbaijan, so far. From there, we just take the plunge and see whatever we can. We are hoping she will sign with a Japanese team again sometime. I definitely need another winter there.

Indians announcers have Dick Bremer Disease and make a routine fly for the home team sound like it's outtathere.

Haha, yep! I was going to post this too.

I for one was most surprised how slow Zukie is. Doumit slow.

Anyone with enough knowledge to rank the speed of the starting lineup?

Mauer is below average. Willingham is very slow. I haven't seen enough of Colabello but I assume he is below average. Plouffe was pinch-run for last season, so unless he was hurt he is another snail. I doubt if Arcia has anything better than average speed. Dozier, a little above, maybe. Florimon and Hicks are the only two that I would even have considered sending, just if I wanted to test the outfielder's arm a little.

Is there a slower lineup in the majors, top to bottom?

Ouch, good observation...or bad I guess.

Don't worry about our speed. Vavra will get the boys home!

I have heard the same thing, that in some ways it is a great time to hit some of the spots, because there are no tourist crowds at all. I did a summer study abroad in Jerusalem a number of years ago. We were toying with going to Egypt afterwards, but felt we needed more time than what we had. We did a long weekend in Jordan instead and saw Petra. It was pretty amazing.

Actually I have been to Israel, but it was fly in, went to a basketball game, then partied at some restaurant, then flew out. It wasn't the experience I would have liked.

The speedy guys are too uppity for Gardy.

How was Baku? Seems like it'd be a different world (though Turkey was one my very favorites and it's a different world too.) Is this indoor volleyball or beach?

How hard is Pelfrey throwing? I don't see a speed reading on the Indians' feed

Good question...seems to be at least as fast as last year, which would be good for first start. I love his location too...not afraid at all to work inside.

He should wear it if it's 90 degrees.

I take this to mean that in your considered opinion the good gentleman has no alibi whatsoever?
