This year about him getting a mostly full healthy year under his belt. Possibly he'll run out of steam come September, but I hope not. I think he comes much closer next year to what we were expecting in the power department, but I am not disappointed in what he has shown this year. For all practical purposes, because of his injuries, this is his rookie year. I'm hoping Julian and Lewis( with more healthy games played) keep up the pace the rest of this year and next. That would be a great threesome to have added to the lineup as regulars going forward. I would like to see Wallner or maybe Larnach added to the group the rest of this year.

Rumor: Twins Fielding Calls On Their Left-Handed Outfielders
gman replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Like everyone else, I would trade Gallo for roster space. Simply a signing that didn't really work out, move on. Trade Kepler, use his current hot stretch for the teams advantage, before he cools off. If he woke up and this the real him, why did he wait until the post all star break? I agree with previous posts that Twins will need controllable outfielders for next year and I'd prefer Wallner and Larnach. Jenkins probably won't be ready for 2-3 months😀(we wish). I don't really want Castro or Gordon getting enough time in the outfield next year to be looked at as near starters. We need better. But it's starting to look like we might be grabbing outfielders off the scrap heap next year. -
We have 4 good but not great players sitting on the IL right now who could be back in August. Probably as good as anyone we are LIKELY to trade for. Polanco hits right as well as left, Lewis who is a right handed hitter, Thielbar a lefty reliever and Stewart a righty reliever. No cost but time. Thielbar scheduled for St Paul rehab starting today. Polanco has already been on rehab assignment in ST Paul. Lewis took batting practice on Friday and is hoping to be back early August. Stewart some time in August. Alcala and Paddock possible September. Gordon is running. No set time for any of these 4. I wouldn't give up much to trade for anyone that would be a short term rental.

I suggest we approach this trade deadline as if we have a 15 game lead. There has not been a real fight for first place in the division all year. Cleveland is discussing trades for some of their starting pitchers. Or at least teams that would like to trade for them are. Give Wallner and larnach playing time in the outfield. Put Buxton on the injured list, let Polanco DH and give his legs time off, don't over use Duran. Let Julian play second. He played all over in the minors, but maybe that's part of his problem now he never got steady playing time at the second. One of those problems of wanting position players who can play all over, they can't play anywhere at gold glove level. Trade Gallo and Kepler. They won't be back next year and don't be fooled by a sudden hot streak, they're the same guys who did poorly the whole first half. We need to find a couple of guys to play in the outfield next year, or else we'll be hunting an entire outfield in the off season. It doesn't look like Buxton will be back out there and he never play that many games in any season anyway. They need to play Martin in center field and quit putting him at second base. If he is hitting well enough by the end of August, let him rotate with Taylor. Miranda probably needs surgery or at least long term rest for his shoulder. There is a reason he can't drive the ball. It's hard to hit with one hand. Don't expect him back this year. Don't expect Alcala, Paddock or Canterino for a pitching boost this year. I think the Twins can win 38 of their last 66 games. Roughly a 600 clip. That should allow them to slowly pull away in the division.

For anyone who remembers the Rod Carew trade, you can't think of any other trade when someone says "The Worst Trade in Twins History". Nothing recent evens come close.

1. Stewart - Duran needs some help in the bullpen besides Jax. We don't need to see Duran get burned out trying to cover to much. 2. Lewis - A good hitter maintaining third base. Add another bat in this lineup. 3. Theilbar - see #1. 4. Polanco - They need offense from whatever source. Polanco, when healthy, is probably the teams best veteran hitter. 5. I would also go with Paddock here. Right now I don't see where Gordon would fit in.

If they don't send him to the IL, who do they send down or cut. It's Wallner, Julian, Castro or Kirilloff. I think all of those 4 are more valuable, plus they are all hitting better. If they try to put him on the IL, will he go? Polanco seems to need a couple more games at St Paul, but his time to return is almost upon us.

The Twins Shouldn't Trade Sonny Gray Out of Panic
gman replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Right now the wildcards that the Twins could GET to face in the playoffs are Baltimore(we know what happens there), Houston, or Toronto. I'm pretty sure those teams aren't shivering. So shop Gray and any veteran they think they can get something of value for. Gray could make 14 more starts for the Twins and under best of circumstances 1 playoff game. The Twins odds of making or not making the playoffs don't change much with trade the usual group of suspects. They might improve with some rookies coming in to play hard. -
The Twins Should be Shopping Sonny Gray
gman replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I want to see the Twins as an ACTUAL good team, not the best of a lousy group. They struggled to beat Oakland for crying out loud. They got their hats handed to them by Baltimore in the last series after their vaunted team meeting. If they can get overwhelmed by not only Gray but a few other players take the deals. They can probably do as well in the division without him. -
I would be satisfied having a 60% ugly win rate the rest of the schedule. Just 41 more ugly games to win.

75 Options the Minnesota Twins Could Trade For
gman replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins need to make room on their roster first, whether they trade for a veteran or bring up guys from the minors. For teams that are sellers, I seriously doubt anyone would be buying a trade for Gallo or Kepler. There are more players the Twins could trade, but I think anyone else currently on the roster is more valuable. I think the Twins can limp into the playoffs without doing a lot, but it would be better if they can make some progress for next years team too. Which may be backwards, but maybe they can sell their way into the playoffs.- 42 replies

Which Twins Left-Handed Outfielder Should Go?
gman replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you put them both on the market, if they aren't already. If they wanted to hang unto one, let the market dictate that. They would wind up hang unto whichever one the market thinks is the worse. Neither Wallner nor Larnach may drive the team to the promised land, but neither Gallo nor Kepler are currently and they are both gone in less than three months. Trade them, pay the balance of their salaries and see what 5mil each can buy you on the market. Meantime see if you have something you can count on for next year. Stevenson is also having a good year at 3A. -
May be too big to play shortstop, but if he can play shortstop then he should at least get the opportunity to play third base or first base. He has a plus throwing arm, so third maybe a better use of his talent. If he loses a little foot speed as he ages, he doesn't have to run a lot to field the position well. See him in four years? Maybe 2027?

5 Reliever Trade Targets for the Twins
gman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This team is a more of addition by subtraction position. I think any addition needs to come from the minors. Plenty could be subtracted from the major league roster. So I guess that would technically leave the team as sellers.- 25 replies

The failure is on the players. They go to the plate, they swing the bat. The players doing the best so far this year are fresh up from the minors. No veteran is having a decent year, let alone good. Maybe these guys just can't adapt to the pitch clock, and need 10 minutes between pitches to get their heads in the at bats.

When did Conor Prielipp have TJ surgery. Was it early last year or 2021? Does anyone know. Might just be a slow healer or someone screwed up his rehab trying to get him back for last years draft..- 13 replies

2023 MLB Draft Day 3 Thread
gman replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
Currently there are 7 catchers in the FCL team, some of who could be moved to other teams. With 15 pitchers taken in the draft, you do need catching of some type to warm of pitchers and for practice. Are any of them potential starters? Don't know, they spread the AB's around a lot. Daniel Pina, 18, has started the best hitting wise but only about 40 plate appearances. His fielding isn't much to right home about.- 82 replies
