  1. Neither party may have realized how potentially serious it was. Also, the Twins definitely have a history of being late to IL/DL guys so I wouldn't say I'm shocked.
  2. Are player for prospect swaps directly correlated to MLB wins? Idk why you won't answer the question if you've got such an advantage in this debate. Is Cleveland winning games because they're doing this, or as I said earlier, are there other variables being ignored? Wins measuring team success was never a point I made, hence it's a strawman. Same goes for the "trades for prospects yield 5x the WAR as trades for established players," snippet, and that's assuming you aren't larping on an internet forum.
  3. Strawman. Do you believe that trading MLB talent with years of control, for prospects, correlates directly with team wins or losses?
  4. 1. The trade landscape by definition will always change. It's literally the job of a FO to adjust. Idk how this can possibly be an excuse for getting nothing done. 2. Cleveland sold so MN can be content to do nothing? Coasting to a crown in an awful division misses the point. They know they'll have to play somebody other than KC, Detroit, Chicago, or Cleveland in the postseason right? 3. The roster that this FO built isn't worth investing in? If they really feel that way then lets cut bait now...
  5. The fact that the metric you're using isn't close to being a direct correlation?
  6. Was the price for some of those available arms really unreasonable? I'd guess this FO didn't get the green light, which flies in the face of their public comments, but Idk how you look at the current pen, knowing that Stewart has a MRI today, and do nothing.
  7. Stewart has a setback Saturday, they schedule a MRI for today, and then they stand pat. Make it make sense...
  8. Ah so we'll continue to ignore it? I thought we were being objective....
  9. Moving into the upper echelon of contenders (and I'm using that term lightly) wasn't the goal. Shoring up a faltering pen and/or adding a RH bat was doable. Sure they can **** around and win this atrocious division without either, but doing nothing might be worse than selling SP or acquiring either of the above.
  10. I don't want to listen to you preach about objectivity if you're going to purposely ignore other variables involved in getting to your 90 win standard.
  11. Keeping one of the few productive (and young) hitters on an inept offensive squad doesn't make sense? I'm criticizing the notion that constantly shipping out established major league talent is a necessary evil, particularly at their current payroll.
  12. What else is that FO going to tell their fans? "Hey guys, I know we're only .5 games back but ownership is cheap as ****, so we picked up a replacement for Naylor when we inevitably have to trade him in a year or two."
  13. They scored 2 or fewer runs in 5/6 games against Baltimore post "meeting," and went 2-4. Why are we using the ASB as a cutoff if "the meeting," has had such a profound effect on the hitting? Playing half your games post June against KC, Oakland, and Chicago (three of the worst pitching staffs in baseball) probably has a lot more to do with the turnaround....
  14. They definitely sold high on Civale, but that 1B hasn't seen a big league pitch so spark plug for them seems like a stretch but ya never know I guess. McKenzie and Bieber aren't coming back anytime soon (if at all) this season. To me this was a clear "sell," on 2023.
  15. How is trading 2.5 years of Civale for a prospect considered buying?
  16. But that roll of the dice isn't a small gamble. This isn't replacing Joey Gallo with Trevor Larnach. The step down from Gray to Keuchel is massive.
  17. That's a pretty bold statement considering Keuchel was atrocious the last few years and pitched himself out of MLB. Did we forget how much Varland struggled earlier in the year as well? Don't look now, but his AAA numbers since being demoted are eerily similar to what he posted during his stint in MN.
  18. It doesn't matter which league you're sending him to, my point is that you're creating a hole without the resources to plug it. Hard pass on Keuchel for any amount of time, let alone 2 months. Varland is getting blown up in AAA right now and he struggled with the Twins earlier this year. There's a massive drop off from Gray to that duo. MN only has a 1.5 game lead right now, even in a weak division moving Gray is a pretty big gamble.
  19. Sure, I just feel like this is a very quantity for quality swap. A good, young, cost controlled SP is the most valuable asset in baseball. Idk why if I'm Seattle I'm letting that go for what amounts to spare parts.
  20. No I'm reading your posts. That's why I'm asking you to list all these positive contributions, or "other pieces," that aren't getting the credit they deserve. You've already backed down from your claim you could throw out 10, and now you're just defaulting to what the OP listed. Appearances and IPs? Stop. His (negative) WPA is a good thing? Do you realize that the LI (another listed positive) tells us exactly what I previously said? He's pitching almost exclusively in low leverage. Anybody using data to make a case against Pagan is a "hater," but it's everybody else who is being emotional? Ok.... I agree, this is fruitless. You've backed yourself into a corner and I guess the last card to play is victimhood.
  21. Who's taking his spot in the rotation? Ober has matched his career high in IPs and they still need another 2+ months from him. Does Kenta hold up for the rest of the year? There's nobody in AAA that we should feel good about. I don't fear anybody in the ALC either, but the Twins haven't exactly built themselves a cushion, and there's really no SP depth beyond what they're currently rolling out.
  22. Seattle's view of Wallner would have to be wildly different than MN's. I get that this is an "ideal," swap, but this seems like a landslide W for the Twins, which means there's basically no chance it would happen. Seattle is trying to upgrade Hernandez's spot right? Why would they lock themselves into what many of us see as a younger version of that player? To put it another way, if we're Mariners fans, we're pissed if George Kirby and his years of control are being shipped out for a 30 year old 2B on the decline and what Wallner profiles as.
  23. List the facts! You said it yourself, you could rattle off 10 positives categories that aren't being properly weighted. If you've got a glut of info that says Pagan is more than a low leverage, clean inning guy I'm all ears! You're going to complain about arguments being skirted or shifted, but toss Jax out as a comp? Hmmm. Whataboutism aside, yep, Jax was brutal for about a month but there was certainly plenty of hand wringing over his performance. He's been stellar since mid May, and he's pitching late innings/high leverage, i.e. he's an actual weapon, hence he's not viewed similarly to Pagan. There's no "yeah but," here. The case against Pagan is straight forward; he can't handle leverage, he doesn't pitch well when inheriting runners, the need to shield him has a domino effect, and his role is best suited for guys auditioning. Do you have an actual rebuttal to any of that, or is this a never ending tap dance?
  24. His performances in different leverages/situations is the case against him, so no, pointing out that he hasn't come close to filling a mid leverage role isn't semantics. You're not actually bringing up any positives, you're just talking in vague terms and twisting what others are saying into some kind of personal attack narrative. I'll ask you again, what are all these positives that aren't being properly accounted for? What are the 10 areas where he's providing value and contributing to wins but not being rewarded for doing so? Enlighten us "haters."
