  1. Cruz, Pineda, Duffy, Rogers, Happ and Simmons are no-brainers if we're out of it in July. Trading Berrios and/or Buxton is giving up on 2022, which there's no reason to do. I only trade them in July 2022 if next season also falls apart. I'd try to get Berrios signed to an extension though. Buxton is an impossible quandary.
  2. Rocco deserves a higher % of the blame. As bad as they've been, if they didn't play extra inning games with their hands around their throat and hadn't stuck with Colome several games too long, they'd have 3 more wins or so and we wouldn't be panicking. That said, cut dead wood and play the kids. Cut bait with Sano and Cave. DL Buxton. Call up Rooker, Larnach and Broxton. Cut Shoemaker after tonight unless he earns another start and roll with Dobnak.
  3. "Expose" whoever you have to. Continuing to run Colome out there is a joke, It's a one year deal. Cut your losses and move on. Alacala. Duran. Even Stashak.
  4. Colome, Cave and Jeffers remaining on the roster any longer is a joke. And faith in Rocco is approaching zero. At some point, if your team pees down their leg in the same situation over and over is on you.
  5. I'd take a little Gardy and Battling our Tail Off right now.
  6. Colome is Fernando Rodney all over again. Continuing to let him close is a joke.
  7. He is who he is. A below replacement level player right now. Rooker or Kierloff should be the primary 1B going forward with Sano playing once or twice per week. More when he's "hot".
  8. The humor of the MN Sports Gods. It goes beyond the Twins. Duante Culpepper was never the same. Teddy Bridgewater's was so bad he almost lost his leg.
  9. This might just be the year we win a play-off game!
  10. I don't get being upset about it. At worst it's meh. He's basically Rich Hill without the post-season pedigree but far more reliable in the regular season.
  11. Juan Rincon and Joe Nathan did pitch the next innings anyway, and they didn't give up any runs. No logical reason they'd be more nervous up 1 than in a tie, but who knows. The Yankees were Juan's daddy as we'd learn two days later.
  12. Your premise about the payroll continuing to rise is false. At least for 2021. They will likely have to cut it, at least some. Doogie on KSTP was speculating they would go from $140 million to $100 million. Even if they only cut it to $120 million, it's tough to keep him. Then factor in the decline that is laid out, the fact that Donaldson may need to DH some and it's hard to justify keeping him if he costs $12-15 million. If it's $5 million, then obviously you keep him.
  13. I had forgotten that we were up 3-0 in Game 1 of 2010. Between that and Game 2 of 09 it's depressing to read. To say nothing of the fact that the streak would have never started if Cory Koskie's double in 8th inning of game 2 in 2004 hadn't bounced over the wall.
  14. To be fair, Bomba ball in October would have worked better in the Dome.
  15. It wasn't out of caution for the pitchers. It was because his analytics said not to let either one face the line-up a 3rd time. But sometimes you have to use your eyes and see that they are locked in and ignore the analytics.
  16. As for the FA's: Letting Odorizi go is a no brainer. Gonzalez as well. My feeling on Cruz has shifted. I think we are seeing the beginning of what will likely be a swift decline from him. His last month reminds me of Jim Thome 2011. There is certainly no way I'd give him a 2-year deal. i know he's our clubhouse leader and all, but really, where has that gotten us? I'd try to keep May and Clippard if he's cheap. I'd assume 130 million is going to be about the maximum payroll can go next year given the uncertainties. 2B Arreaz CF Buxton RF Kepler 3B Donaldson LF Kierloff DH Rooker SS Polanco 1B Sano C Jeffers Bench: Garver Adrianza Wade Astudillo Starters: Trevor Bauer Maeda Berrios Pineda Dobnak Bullpen: Duffy May Rodgers Clippard Stashak Alcala Thielbar Lefty FA
  17. Like Gardy, Rocco is a pretty good regular season manager, but he's an even worse post season manager. I don't think we will ever win a post season series with him as manager. I know it won't happen, but I'd be fine moving on. FWIW, even given that they were underdogs in the vast majority of the games, the odds of losing these 18 games in a row is approximate 1 in 20,000. It's truly unbelievable.
  18. He should be on the bench during the play-offs with Gonzalez at 1B. He's not a starting ML player right now.
  19. Agreed. Avila is no longer needed and shouldn't be on the post season roster, IMO.
  20. Already done. We're now in 5th. The season will be over in 12 days. This team is going nowhere. Cruz suddenly looks his age. Sano is in strikeout every other at bat mode. Eddie's not hitting. Donaldson never was. And the bullpen has it's own issues.
  21. Tank for 8th! I feel like it's inevitable the Yankees will catch us and I'd much rather go to Chicago, Tampa or Oakland. Frankly I'd rather play them on the road than the Yankees at home.
  22. And we're only 1 game ahead of the Yankees. What's the tiebreaker for home field? If we lose out can Cleveland catch us?
  23. It's the Yankees in the play-offs. None of it matters. We don't have the bullpen to hold them down and Cruz, Rosario and Kepler aren't clicking so we're not winning any 11-10 games either, I'm afraid.
  24. Rogers cannot be the closer going forward this season. I have zero confidence in him getting outs in the play-offs. And yes the HP ump cost us dearly tonight, but so did Cruz.
