  1. It's like trading a stock that has a 50% shot of being worth 1 million and a 50% shot of busting for an annuity worth 350K. Time will tell. If Reusse is right that they only view him as a reliever now, I'm OK with it.
  2. This is like reading the Martin Perez thread from ~1 year ago all over again. Nooo! Eeew! There is no downside to this signing. Not even $7 million like last time.
  3. Larnach, Duran and Jake Cave to the Marlins for Alcantara.
  4. Last year was his first full season. I'm willing to take a chance on his upside.
  5. Yes. Get Alcantarra from the Marlins or take a flyer on Archer. Either could end up your #3 starter by October if things go well and neither will cost you a ton.
  6. It seems one of the punishments should be that the Astros get no video replay access for 2-10 years. Want to challenge? Take your chances.
  7. Pleasantly surprised. Now top it of with Alcantara.
  8. Look, it's either that or violate the Assigned Value Chart. And that just isn't done.
  9. With Frazier and Alex Wood off the board, we can just about declare FA dead, barring a miracle with Donaldson. This is our team. It was a failed off-season. Big time.
  10. You can't treat Gonzalez as an addition over Cron. Gonzalez played a lot last year. If he becomes a starter, his bench AB's will be taken by Cave/Wade/Adrianza. That's a downgrade.
  11. I guess Derek's sacred value chart says he's only worth $4 million period! It seems incredibly penny wise and dollar foolish.
  12. No one is expecting that. If they could afford a $130 million payroll in 2018, it stands to reason they can afford a $140 million payroll in 2020 given higher ticket sales and inflation. Instead they're sitting a $110.
  13. Personally, I need to see at least another half season from him. Both on the field, on the scale and off field. If all is well at the All-Star break, make him an offer.
  14. I appreciate all the work people put into the articles and the quality and quantity of content. (Even if "Here's why the Front Office doing nothing might be a good thing, Part V" is frustrating to read sometimes.)
  15. My guess is the Twins have offered 4/$85, the Nats have offered close to $100 million but a huge chunk of it is deferred and the Braves have the lowest offer. The Twins can probably get this done for 4/$95 or 4/$100. So why not do it? The extra $2-3 million year is nothing.
  16. I feel like a slightly front-loaded 4/$105 gets it done. Offer him $32, 28, 25, 20. If they are worried about a payroll crunch in 2022/2023, that leaves the salary around the same as it would be on their current offer. And if he ends up a part-time DH by the 4th year, at least the salary is not outrageous.
  17. Give Donaldson his $110: $35, 30, 25, 20. Trade Larnach, Alcala and Jake Cave to the Marlins for Alcantara. 2020 payroll is ~$145 million. Line-up is stacked. Bullpen is solid. Rotation might look pretty good by July.
  18. That's a huge leap of faith. One guy has a full MLB season under his belt. The other has like ML innings. And Graterol is probably good for 100 innings this year at the most. They are not in direct competition for a rotation spot, IMO.
  19. Falvine and their "assigned values" have made a mess of this off-season. Have they not seen enough to admit this and adjust yet?
  20. Exactly. Doogie is saying he's enjoyed the Twins pitch and would like to face AL Central pitching. He will come here if we pay him, despite our frozen tundra and the modest plane ride from Backwater, FL.
  21. Pretty much saying he'd be a Twin if we offer the 4/$110. Atlanta is clearly not offering that. So who not do it? We can afford it this year and next year. Plenty of time to figure out 2022 and beyond. Passing over an extra $4-5 million/year is so foolish. If you think he's a good risk, do it. If you don't you shouldn't offer $90 million either.
  22. I'm guessing Falvey won't be doing Q&A at Twins Fest or the Caravan.
  23. As for moves from this point, I don't think there's much to do. I'd like to see them make a trade for Price if they can get the Red Sox to eat a significant chunk of 2021 and 2022. I'd like to see them sign an IF'er, but the prospects are getting snapped up. Either Ginnett (sp) from the Reds or Doz works for me. I know some don't like Arreaz at 3B, but I don't mind it. I don't think a bigger trade (Archer, Boyd, Gray etc.) is in the cards. We won't give up top 10 prospects and you're not getting any of them without one or more. I don't see any of those teams being that motivated to make a deal. That said, I don't think any of the above will happen. Outside of a minor league deal or two, I think what we have now is it.
  24. They can't go into details. But if they made top offers on one or more guys, they can certainly say that without disclosing who. Or they can leak it through Doogie, etc.
